   Alot of ppl are coming around to Kingdom Come, American Gangster is classic may be the best concept album hip hop wise, and BP3 was solid

(not you in particular)..I swear I wish more rap fans actually got into the rap game so they could relate to their fav. rapper for real. Most of the play-by-play color commentary Hov be spittin about the game be real as hell. I liked hearing it as a kid, but as a man tryna make some moves out here, I could swear by the @+*+ now. That @!+%# be speaking that actuality, not that reality. That reality be that @+*+ Wayne rap about. Yeah, it's really happening somewhere but YOU ain't on it. YOU ain't doing it.  Jay actually is balling.. I actually wish I was too. That sort of rhetoric is appreciated. I don't wanna hear about most rappers' money and guns cuz they ain't got neither. I don't mind hearing about Jay's.

I said when it dropped that people would love it later.. Only because I rap did I like it then. I saw the growth and the story as it had progressed to that point. I understood how the money and success could take you from jeans and hoodies to a suit and tie while leaving your love for hip-hop unaltered. I knew that the music sounds different once you grow out of the hunger and escape the poverty that once fueled you, so I didn't hold it against him.  I was proud of the man, actually. He found a way to extend a rap career into another stage of life. Jay had become the first "Grown up rapper". Even LL and Snoop was still tryna sound cool and young. Jay said, "Nah, I'ma be MY age and make you like it and respect it". I said that the album sounded out of touch with our time because we were no longer the same types of people that Jay himself identified with both age-wise and financially. Watch and see, those of us that grow our bank accounts but maintain out hip-hop roots -- we'll be the ones that listen to albums like KC when they become the "in thing" in 10 years.

How can you say he stayed in touch wit his hip hop roots? If he went from jeans and hoodies to suit and tie. Thats not Hip Hop.! Hip Hop is a representation of the streets and basically a biography of it. If you listen to a philly rapper or 305 guy or an H-Towner you see what there hood or the people around them lives are like. You listen to Jay now and all you get from him is what Donald Trump or Bill Gates life is. Thats not motivating and in my opinion its time for him to rap it up. He sits in a office an talks about corprate deals. Thats nothing that the average person can learn a lesson from. A classic business man not a classic rapper.

So he's not FROM the street because he didn't stay in the streets? So...hip-hop is only hip-hop as long as it doesn't make you successful. Oh, bet that up. Look at it from my perspective. Really try to think about what I'm trying to get across.... If I made...a billion dollars tomorrow... you think I'd still live in the Hood? You think I'd hang around the same people I do today and risk my life in the same slums I roam daily? For the most part, all of that changes as you rise up from nothing IF you want to protect your wealth. That don't change where you CAME FROM though. Money only changes where you go. Jay IS hip-hop, he's just at a level no other rappers had previously reached. Until he got there and showed us what a 40 year old half-billionaire rapper FROM the projects of NY sounded like, we had nothing to extrapolate from. So it's not that he isn't hip-hop, it's that he isn't what you expected hip-hop to look, be, and act like at 40 years old -- if you ever actually expected to see a 40 year old rapper to begin with.

If Mace could say "I don't understand the language of people with short money" I don't get how people get mad at Jay for speaking on %@#! they don't understand. It's a communication gap wither way. "By his old albums" if you like that older stuff he was on

So is that still hip hop/rap because hes a rapper. Why cant Jays new music be pop. Like you said theres nothing street about it now cause hes out of the hood. Its nothing remotely like what other rappers are talking about so what makes it hip hop?

That makes him a crossover artists, duh.. come on man.. rappers make RAP. Don't use arbitrary analogies man.. anyway.. Pop means popular, nothing more. MOST rap IS pop. That's not a bad thing. It's just an adjective.. not a definition. mainstream rap = pop rap, or Hip-pop. You can say it negatively or positively depending on how you feel, but it is what it is regardless.
