Black Culture Discussion Thread

Lakeith has had his weird moments for sure,

But the way people are reacting to what he said (which is spot on) is why we will forever be in this circle.

Another factor is Lakeith ain’t someone they feel is tough to respect the message. They only wanna accept that type of **** from like 21 savage who would say some **** like that then go back to making a whole album glorifying spinning on ******

Who would/could we even accept what Lakeith is saying from?

People will concede to changing their hair/dress/slang because of rappers but saying they may influence the youth to behave negatively even a small percentage is a crazy idea to folks

If you let another adult have that much power over you…. Then that’s a personal problem. Again, this is the same generation that let young thug call people his “boyfriend” and let 69 walk around in all rainbow everything (which is the color for LGBQT) then there’s definitely no hope for the future generation.

Alcohol and Drugs have done farrrrrrr more damage than hip hop… again, show me ONE gun manufacturer that’s black owner or made in the hood

I think humans would accept any type of music that is pushed in them by record executives. Sure, some genres might be more lucrative than others for these companies I wouldn't argue that.

In other news

No one cares what he says. As an adult If you’re easily peer pressured by music or can’t differentiate fact from fiction or entertainment, that’s a PERSONAL problem.

I’ve listened to all the hotboys music, mob deep, 2pac, 50 cent, snoop, ice cube etc and not once did I say “hey, let me get a gun and shoot someone”

6pac 6pac 21 Savage is all talk BTW.

NO one really wants to be a gangster. It’s all a facade. Especially the current generation. I’ve seen more dudes dry snitch, or snitch on themselves by posting stuff on social media that it’s not even funny.

It’s all a farce. When you realize that it’s all entertainment, the lightbulb will go off.

Computers/cell phones/social media, etc. basically all the influx of digital media has eliminated the streets. “Real” gangsters from previous eras would NEVER post all the illicit stuff and crimes that today’s so called gangster does….

That’s why something like 2pac’s accused murderer was unknown for so many years….

Within 24, TWENTY FOUR hours after Takeoffs murder, you had people screenshotting, circling dudes and finger pointing at the dude who allegedly did it, that never would’ve happened 20 years ago. Certain things are supposed to be left to the streets….

You’re speaking as a 30 year old man. I was in high school when Rolling Papers came out and everyone had the yellow patch or was rocking camos *with* J’s/chucks because of Wiz.

Relative to your age I’m sure there’s something you did 15-20 years ago dress/groom/slang wise because of a rapper.

No one is really talking about adults in these convos although we could also take the convo there as far as urban culture influencing adult behaviors also…

Not even gonna address the “generation” thing because both 69 and Thug were controversial af from the moment they came out  we as younger folks thought the thug my hubby captions and wearing dresses was odd in 2013-2015 also

You know these 30 year olds have kids right? Some that are teenagers and minors? You know how many people don’t monitor their kids? You do know that there are also 30+ year olds who still are easily influenced?

Look at all these women getting BBLs, lashes, etc. it’s not an age thing. As a parent, if you only let your child consume rap music, that’s a parental issue.

Yes, Bone Thugs influenced me to grow my hair, Deion sanders influenced me in sports, Jordan and certain athletes influenced my shoe game… I grew up in the 90s and never sagged my jeans.

But I don’t have any tattoos, I don’t own any guns, never shot a gun, never smoked weed and I don’t drink. Bottom line, parents let too many outside sources influenced there kids.

My moms always made certain things clear about entertainment and entertainers. Again, parents can’t be absolved from blame.

You got 20, 30, and 40 year old women booty shaking and posting thirst traps on social media. For all the world to see, including kids. But rap is to blame?

20, 30, 40 year old men posting guns, drugs, smoking weed in front of their kids, pants sagging, etc… but hip hop is to blame? Nope. I ain’t going. Adults/parents need equal blame.

There are parents out here who smoke weed in front of toddlers and young children, is rap to blame for that?

A parent can do everything in their power to raise their child right but unless they completely shut the rest of the world off from that child, that child WILL be influenced by the outside world. There is no way around that.

Hopefully the parent "installed" ( addict4sneakers addict4sneakers ) enough guidance in that child's life that they won't go astray but it is always going to be battle for attention between the morals the parent gives vs. The world.

We ALL are influenced by the outside. Children and adults.

I want someone to answer my question as to why YouTube/YouTubers who post and record all types of outlandish and vile stuff that kids consume…

As well as parents who post all types of raunch and foul language on IG, FB, Twitter, basically any social media platform… but rap is all the blame?

A child can go on FB, Twitter, or YouTube right now and literally view pornography or something similar. That’s being promoted and hyped by whom? ADULTS

All parties play a role in influencing young minds.

All of them.

Rap is one influence.
Tik Tok is another.
Violent programming that desensitizes us is another. (Which folks love to also dismiss)

The world is at our kid's fingertips. The literally can see any and everything without leaving the house.

It's scary.

I wasn’t sheltered and grew up perfectly fine. I know kids who grew up sheltered and ended up BUCKWILD.

I’ve never been a proponent or fan of sheltering kids… my argument is that people need to stop using rap as a scapegoat. Adults and society need to take their charge and own up to the BS.

Kid drinks alcohol? BLAME rap (Hennessy, Remy, Seagrams, etc been around before rap)

Kid shoots someone? BLAME RAP! (Heckler and Koch, Smith and Wesson, Glock are companies that existed before rap)

A dog gets hit by a car? BLAME RAP

A mother forgets to change her kids diaper? BLAME RAP!

Kid smokes black and milds or cigarettes?? BLAME RAP! (Last I checked, Marlboro ‘s and Newport’s where here… before rap)

It’s just sickening

Ta Nehisi basically touched on this in terms of his upbringing. Despite how he and his brother were raised, they still were influenced by the outside. Anyone who disagrees that you can't be influenced in anyway by outside entities is in denial.

The fact that the likes of Jason Williams & Shannon Sharpe are standing up to point out the Hypocrisy of this Kyrie situation should let you know just how obvious it is.

They expect every black man to shook and jive cause they paying him some money. Then you have the fools talking about “it was 5 years ago that Kyrie was on a boat with white girls and in the club with thots” as if people cannot change. That shows you how some of these dudes mindsets are. Crabs in a barrel.

"On Oct. 27, Irving tweeted a link to “Hebrew to Negroes: Wake Up Black America,” a 2018 film driven by antisemitic tropes about Jewish people lying about their origins. Among its false and outlandish claims is the assertion that the Holocaust never happened"

If we are being honest, a part of the discussion has to be:

If,

Claiming European Jewish people are lying about their heritage and (alleged) claims that the Holocaust didn't happen = Anti-Semitic

then,

Claiming Black Hebrew Israelite people are lying about their heritage, refusal support reparations, refusal to support CRT, and (documented) proof that McGraw-Hill Education textbooks erased The Trans Atlantic Slave Trade in favor of the Trans Atlantic Migrant Worker Trade = Anti-Black

IJS - there's a conversation to be had.

One of the main things that has pissed me off about this is how everyone brushes along the thought of Black Hebrew Israelites as if the way this is being treated isn't disrespectful to their heritage as well

there's also the fact that semetic doesn't describe European Jews specifically but that term is almost exclusively used only when speaking about them. I would also like to know why Jewish owned film companies can repeatedly release movies about slavery & somehow that isn't viewed as harmful & dangerous to the black community.

It shows you what some of our very own black brethren think. They pedestalize the white man and anything associated to him. Even the "so called" atheist are here battling to say that Kyrie can't be of Jewish descent.

Sounds like a job for Henry Louis Gates and whatever foremost Jewish authority to get to work and finally address the issues with the so called Tribe of Shem.

After all, its 2022 and there's absolutely no honest reason to keep our history a mystery.

I mean we aren't talking about Dawes Roles or anything like that...even though many Native American tribes exclude Black folks based solely on skin color too.

"It might seem perverse that in 1979, with the memory of the civil-rights movement still fresh, Indian tribes began to restrict citizenship on the basis of racial difference. But in 1983 the Choctaw Nation joined the Muscogee in excluding the descendants of freedpeople, and in 2000 the Oklahoma Seminoles imposed racially restrictive rules as well. The Cherokee Nation followed suit in 2007. (The Chickasaws had never recognized freedpeople as members at all.) The exclusions cast a harsh light on anti-Black racism among the Five Tribes, whose members seemed all too ready to formalize racial distinctions in tribal policies, constitutions, and legal decisions."

What heritage are we talking about? The fabricated one that claims people from West Africa are the Hebrews of the Bible?

Where is Damascus? Persia? Bethlehem? Ethiopia? These are places mentioned in the Bible. Haven't seen or been made aware of mentions of Timbuktu, Ghana, or Kongo in the biblical texts, which have been used ad nauseam to "prove" the claim above.

How about we stop believing BS because it somehow makes us feel better about ourselves. Christianity, Islam, and Judaism are middle eastern religions. The Old Testament wasn't written about West/Central Africans.

I would also like to know why Jewish owned film companies can repeatedly release movies about slavery & somehow that isn't viewed as harmful & dangerous to the black community.
The ones that do misrepresent slavery get boycotted (gone with the wind) and/or taken out of circulation.

The ones that lean on the white savior trope get criticized.

The ones that depict slavery accurately get left alone because that's what they're supposed to do. Nobody would've come at Kyrie if he hadn't posted a movie that literally denies an important part of human history.

They pedestalize the white man and anything associated to him.
The white man has nothing to do with it.

My opposition has to do with buying into a belief system based on the assumption that Black Africans have always had a uniform history. It has to do with trivializing our experience by defining ourselves according to the18th century Eurocentric view of the peoples of Africa. It is about robbing Black peoples of our rich and complex past in order to replace it with unproven claims of divine origin in order to assert our superiority over other demographic groups, and it is an extremely terrible thing to do at a time when Black folks worldwide are struggling to record our traditions, languages, and customs for the younger generations.

Black Hebrew Israelites are dismissing real history for pseudohistory and way too many of our folks are buying into the nonsense.

With the original Jews being sent/Migrated all across the world for centuries, is it not possible for them to have mixed and mingled with all kinds of people to have offspring in almost every single ethnic group? How would that be "pseudo history"? You think that they just so happened to have only Migrated to Europe?
