Black Culture Discussion Thread

Your enemy studies you, and your enemy enacts ways to pull you down and then you justify it because of what? Are you even sharing your reports with the rest of the class or find satisfaction in "it's not me".

I only care about my family. The people that taught me to never feel inferior or sell myself short. Yeah, those people. They raised me to view people at eye level, not to ever feel lesser. Everyone else better get it how you live. My family has over 10+ homeowners aged 45 and younger and counting.

College degrees, careers, great professions, etc.

It ain’t my fault some peoples family’s ain’t s****

We good here.

Who is WE??

You know DAMN well these kids ain’t listening to Mos Def, Common or Little Brother (I’m a big fan of all)

Ya’ll sound so weak it’s embarrassing.

NY literally championed 69…. 50 called this man the KONY :lol :lol :lol :lol

He talked about Jay-Z having wicks like a “gay” painter…

But was in support of a dude with RAINBOW hair :lol :rollin :rollin
Did you even read what I said?

Of course they aren't listening to the conscious stuff from 3 decades ago because that's not what's in season right now.

Read my statement again.

MOST people will find value in Whatever is heavily promoted. So the people GENERALLY don't decide what they actually like, the accept Whatever they are fed.

You do have a CHOICE what to listen to bruh. I always thought Gucci mane was trash

I was always more of a TI/Jeezy dude… so you DO have a choice. I’ve never played a Gucci mane album or mixtape front to back.

I’m a wale, Cole, Kendrick, Ross type dude

No matter what 50 said about Ross or Jay-z… I still play more Jay and Ross than 50.

You see my point? IM IN control of what I listen too

DCAllAfrican DCAllAfrican

What’s in season? Who creates the seasons nowadays? Labels are fledging.

Social media (which is a young man’s/womans game) controls the masses now, right? Conscious rap will NEVER be in season because they don’t like it.

Again, ya’ll are in denial and full of EXCUSES

Why did 50 cent call a clearly fake gangsta with rainbow hair the new king of NY??? :lol :lol :rollin
Please explain it to me

Both

Can you explain to me why the entire NYC co-signed Tekashi 69? :lol :lol

The rainbow warrior
It was generally age specific as to who bought into dude but I kinda alread explained how/why that happened.

He had the machine behind him? The online platforms pushed him to the point that he was Essentially everywhere you turned.

Things that are everywhere tend to get the benefit of the doubt from most humans which in turn causes many to buy into whatever is being sold.

It isn't a conscious decision that is being made.

Stole Chicago Drill rap and doing it TERRIBLY :lol :lol
This just more random ignorance :lol

Like think about what you just said about fans deciding quality then all that nonsense about NY backing 69 cuz Curtis said something and how NY doesn’t back Joey Bada$$

Really think about it and then pay attention to what Ray Daniel’s says at the end of that vid. You being led into dead ends and don’t even realize it

Both

This never happened though.

I don’t even have to say you weren’t in NY during this time cuz you prove it with ever NY related post.

Coming off like you really believe what you see on the internet is real life.

Also you kinda revealing you don’t know what NY consists of either

At NO POINT has NY drill rap been better than the original Lil Herb, Lil Bibby, La Capone era Chicago drill rap……..

Then 3 alone were actually barred up!!

Guys like Tsu Surf (jersey I know) Dave East, and Joey Badass post pro era should’ve been getting pushed.

Yall was behind people like Casanova, 69 and Cardi B :lol :rollin

You just talking more ignorance :rollin and don’t even understand what’s ignorant about it

Ignoring facts and focused on drill rap :{

The internet is not real life

Just to be clear. finessence finessence

The MILLIONS of dollars companies spend on marketing, promotional ads, paying for spins on the radio don't heavily affect/influence what the consumers like?

It's all on the consumer to pick and choose who they want to see propped up?

Show me where I said it was real life?

For the youth, a lot of their life is predicated on social media/the internet….

You're aware of the power of suggestive material in social media but you are also saying that people aren't told what to like/accept?

How can both things be true?

The fans created this. Look how many people called JCole or Kendrick too conscious or boring, fans are the issue

Again, artist like Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Little Brother, Brand Nubian, Poor Righteous Teachers, Dead Prez, etc…

WOULD NOT BE APPRECIATED BY TODAYS FANS. Ya’ll need to hold your friends or the youngins around yall, accountable

It’s the fans fault
J Cole and Kendrick are boring, yet are at the top of the charts and winning awards. Seems like something other than fans are making those decisions then, no?

At your ripe old age, you still get caught up in what promoters feed you? If you don’t have a mind of your own as a 30 something that’s FINE :lol

Bro you can be TOLD or fed whatever. Doesn’t mean you need to take it as law.

For instance Jordan will forever be my GOAT, no matter how much LeBron is promoted.

No matter what, I will like Kobe over LeBron as well. You understand?

I don’t care WHAT a guy like 50 cent or the masses say about Jay-z, Rick Ross or ja rule.. I still will play their music:lol

Fans control the QUALITY. There’s a reason Tupac, Nas, Biggie, etc were huge in the 90s

You can produce as MANY physical copies of something as you want, the fans control the demand

There’s a reason DMX had two #1 albums out the gate in 1998.. you sound crazy.

Comparing yesteryears music standards vs today’s with food is completely different.

The FANS still control what artists and what music to support
No they don’t. Fans can tell you what they like, but it’s up to distribution to output it.

The output is YouTube… which you DO control…

The industry is completely different than the past which ya’ll are casually dismissing

We good here.
Did you learn that in your studies of other people's culture? To only care about yourself?

Nah. If you know something is harmful and keep pushing it, that’s a choice. Can’t call it an externality at that point.

Mainstream hip-hop had more diversity in the past that sold well. Choosing to heavily push YN/Drill/Scammer music and putting the rest on the back burner is intentional.

🤔 i think one would have a difficult time proving direct harm but let’s accept that premise as true, what should be done? should the free speech of music be legislated such that certain themes are not permissible??

The fans don’t control the distribution. That’s like blaming people for only buying junk food when the only option that’s constantly stocked is junk food.

“There’s good food around, you just got to search for it!”. Right, but wouldn’t it be cool if you didn’t have to search for it and it was readily on shelves?

“People will still by the junk food!”. Right, but now people who want something else have that option available to them just as easily as junk food. Then the blame can shift more to the consumers.

good analogy, we know ‘food deserts’ as a real phenomenon & there is not, as far i know, a conspiratorial motive to why they exist…rather there are a set of circumstantial, economic, & social issues that make ‘better’ food options less available & maybe even less desirable, such the the negatives compound…that ‘constriction/restriction’ of choice is result & not an aim; there isn’t anything necessarily that structural stopping the ‘better’ options rooting themselves in such communities besides the belief (perhaps this is falsely so) that the consumer can’t afford and/or doesn’t value these options

You really discount the power of suggestion.

The market has ALWAYS been the one that dictates what the fans will want/desire. Sure, some individuals can still like what they want but in EVERY facet of life, the market determines the taste nit the other way around.

They tell us what to like and we are conditioned to like it and fall in line.

Music is no different.

generally it is true that folk cannot choose what isn’t on offer, so in that way the market definitely imposes influence in that way…still the goal is that of, be it eventual or immediate, profit as such consumers are not passive & there are many instances of businesses & whole industries failing as a result of not seeing shifts in consumer sentiment/taste

YouTube is algorithms, which you don't control.

You CAN control your own playlist and music YOU search for.

I have a playlist with damn near 3000 songs of MY choice.

Try again

Even my CD booklets and sleeves from the past are albums that I CHOSE to buy. Ya’ll love excusing behavior. We all have free will.

My brother (15 years younger than me) didn’t like when I played Mobb Deep. Guess what. I didn’t GAF. Get your own car, play what you want.

Meanwhile he was listening to people like Famous Dex and Playboi Carti. That’s his prerogative
