Boardwalk Empire (season 2) thread Vol. Season 1 Blu-Ray 1/10 *Best Buy 2 per store?!*

I liked tonight's episode... no high conflict confrontations like last week, but they did a hell of a lot of different stories.

Pretty cool to notice the motif of men with "half faces", from Harrow, to now the Commodore, and then the Prohibition Agent who got his face burned. Harrow and Angela's scenes were really good, getting more of Harrow's backstory was interesting to see. I liked Gillian taking some vengeance on The Commodore, now that he's in a vulnerable and helpless state, just as she was as a young girl.

I"m really interested in Chalky's storyline, they touched on a lot of his inner conflicts as well as his responsibility to his people to bring justice to the KKK.

More awesome historical references, bringing in Dempsey was either a nice random touch or he'll pop back up again, Nucky did offer for him to train in AC so hopefully he sticks around. The lawyer's idea to add the charge of transporting women across state lines was quite clever.

And I'm glad they didn't ignore/move away from Luciano/Lanksy and Rothstein with Masseria, getting that glimpse of the NY side with the Five Families is always interesting.

Im just a little lost as to what was going on in that scene in terms of whos alcohol was that and who was buying from whom.

I assumed it was Nuckys and Owens went to get it back for him but the dude was content walking away with nothing as long as no sale was made.
I watched it like three times trying to figure it out.

The Casino owner was attempting to buy liquor from the Jimmy/Commodore crew (the Sniper is their muscle) as he had threatened to do earlier when dude was collecting Nucky's percentage.
Slater seeing the attempted coup, took it upon himself to stop the transaction and ensure that at least 1 of Nucky's revenue streams remained loyal to him.

Good lookin fam. This makes perfect sense.
REPPED.

I enjoyed tonight's episode. Although nothing major really happened until the end, there was a lot of good character development. We learned interesting things about Chalky, Harrow, Slater and even Gillian. Next week looks like its going to be a little more dramatic, but I have a feeling its going to be one of the episodes where the preview makes it look like more is going to go on than actually does. But we'll see.

Yo, was this the first time we've seen Harrow's real face? cause if that was the first reveal.. I am disappoint. I expected it to be a bigger reveal than just Jim's wife drawing 'em.

Pretty sure the first time we see him he's not wearing his mask, plus I think Margarets kids saw him without it too.

You're probably right, It's been a year plus since I saw the first season so it slipped my mind. The part about him losing his humanity and feeling of love after the war was touching. I hope they don't go the Harrow/Angela angle, 'causing a rift between Jimmy and him... but it's looking more and more likely.

Overall, it was a great episode. A lot of different stories taking place, I'm finding Chalky's to be the most interesting.. not sure where the Commodore part will be now that he's all messed up.

Really enjoyed this ep. The character development was great. Chalky's starting to feel more pressure to do something about the klan but Nucky still isn't concerned. I think that he's eventually gonna take it into his own hands and it'll result in pretty big consequences for him.
Now that the Commodore in his current state, the plan seems to be much more difficult and now that Nucky's about to be get rid of his legal troubles now that his case is at the federal level won't make things any easier. Gillian at the end

Overall this was another great episode and I can't wait to see how things play out next week.

Can somebody explain what Harrow said about his sister and why they arent in touch anymore? Sometimes it hard understanding what hes saying...Really hope he doesnt end up falling for Angela but its looking that way.

Margaret was OD annoying this episode, I find it funny how she talks down to the maids when just last season she was begging Nucky for work/money. Shes up to no good stashing that money, Im guessing shes keeping it ready for her escape after her secrets get exposed.

Glad theres gonna be another season, best show on tv imo

Harrow lost his humanity and ability to feel after coming back from war and didn't want his sister worrying and taking care of him in his state. So once he healted up his wounds he got up and left town to Chicago to disappear and waste away.

I don't know about that.  If she wanted to kill him, she would have put a pillow over his face and smothered him, not slapped the !@#$ out of him.  I think she was more interested in punishing him.  But will see.  It wouldn't surprise me if the Commodore isn't around for much longer.

Margaret stocking up for the rainy days or when Nucky can no longer support their means, i aint even mad

Harrow face was much worst in the 1st season i believe

an overall good episode

I thought Gillian would kill him at first too, but I think she realizes how important he is to their plans, so he needs to get better. Him stroking out was a great move, though... it looked like their mutiny was going far too well too quickly, so that puts a problem in their way, but it doesn't have to be permanent.

I'm really pleased with Chalky this season, I hoped the writers would involve him more, but the angle they're taking is really great.

This episode has the influence of older Sopranos episodes I feel, tons of character development, several storylines all getting their deserved time, maybe not the greatest stand alone episode, but over the course of the season it was really important.

True on both counts. Definitely think she's saving it because she's concerned Nucky is spending recklessly and may not come out on top. And Harrow's face was way more hollowed last season. Don't know if that's just a coincidence or they're trying to show that it healed more.

Richard Harrow is a beautiful-spirited boss of a man... that. is. all.

I hope they don't go this route either, but I don't think they actually are. Harrow (appears to be) a loyal man, and he will stick by Jimmy, especially for all that Jimmy as done for him. In the preview for next week, he asks Jimmy about his loyalty and Jimmy asks him he he's down for a job that night. They are a great tandem, so that's why I hope Harrow and Angela don't become involved with one another sexually. It would definitely add to the story of loyalty/trust, but it's not something I want to see happen. Maybe as an 'alternate storyline' feature on the season 2 DVD

(imagine they did that!?)

Overall, the episode was great, as usual. The character development has really taken off this season, which is great for a show like this, because every little bit counts.

I won't be totally surprised if Harrow follows what they did for Furio in the Sopranos. He wants to and she wants to, but his loyalty to Jimmy (or Tony) will prevent him.

I think they'll be able to address Harrow's desire for "the perfect life" as well as Angela's displeasure with her current life without having them actually get together. There's enough conflict going on for Jimmy as it is, that would be too much.
