What I read on the debate is that it’s a really fine line between the two but the difference I usually see is that soups are usually thinner and then it can be a difference if broth or stock is involved. It’s weirdly complicatedI’m from the city - I don’t recall anybody calling Gumbo a soup
Maybe a chef can clear the classification.
