NT- Shouldnt we have an @ feature, Like if im in the Dressing better thread and i want Ksteezys opinion i could @ksteezy, and like instagram he would get a notification??? Can we get like a couple pages of people agreeing so this can happen?
This is something we've considered, but if and ONLY if the @ itself is suppressed within the final post and produces, instead, a profile link. Discussions should feel natural, not like a hash of tacky jargon. #annoying #imnottwelve
However, and this has already been pointed out, it's a feature that could easily be abused, as the useless implementation of search tags was on Yuku. Instead of actually using search tags for their intended purpose, people just abused it to spam annoying secondary punchlines, etc. The costs outweighed what few benefits it offered. The new search tag system we'll be rolling out is locked down in comparison, allowing only select tags generated by the staff to be applied at the topic level.
Some similar constraints would need to occur to keep people from spamming @mentions in attempt to plead for attention.
I don't think you need to at the person at all. They'll see it if they check the thread.
What we need is some form of quote notification system though.
NT going to start having a newsfeed and general updates too? A message board shouldn't resemble facebook.
We already have a customizable news feed on the front page. You CAN use it to keep up with friends' activities, but it can also be used to keep track of all the threads you've posted in or see if any new threads have been created in a slower moving forum, like a regional forum, etc. Once the tags have been rolled out, you can also use it to keep up with topics of interest.
If you're a Knicks fan, for example, you could set subscriptions to show you, in real time, any new threads/updates to all threads about the Knicks. This could also be done for particular sneakers, which would be a great way to save time searching the classifieds listings.
