The place I went to has rectangle shaped glasses with various % tint to give the customer an idea. The workers there also had their cars tinted andwilling to show to customers if they want to see.
 
well 50 percent is not tint at all its still fishbowl
35 is on my old m3 right now and i think its still way too light
getting 20 on my new m3 2moro
 
I found a weird website that shows you pictures of cars and tells you what percentage the windows are tinted...

this one is 20% back, 35% front

I think I like the 20% 35% better....but maybe the 35% all around doesn't do justice because it is on a red car

Depends on the shop and what type of tint is used. I just use the generic tint and it costs $140 for sedans and $130 for coupes with life timewarranty. A lot of folks go for the 3M and ceramic tint which can cause up to $500.
