To get a sense of belonging/accomplishment. I guess it would be the feeling of being the big man on campus online.Never understand why people flex for the internet.
I feel bad for this generation (born in 1985 here). It's always a competition with everything and never feeling content/satisfied.
When I was a kid, I just played Sega Genesis and shoot hoops with the kids around my home after school. I was happy with what I had, never felt I needed to show off to anyone.

I guess you missed when people used to walk around with pagers that were disconnected or kids that lied about what toys/video game systems they had...
NONE of this is new. . It's just documented and shared around the world now.
