charlot and elkin nc

I live in sacramento right now but every summer i miss out on alot of jays because i go down to elkin to visit my grandmother so where's any places in elkin or charlot to get jays and limited jays? I missed out on mars last summer=(

Elkin is out in the boonies so thats a automatic no-go. Charlotte has some places, but thats like a 2hr drive.
