Curbing cell phone addiction

It's not just phones but screens in general.

When I WFH (3 days a week), I have two computer monitors for work (2), phone for scrolling social media (3), tv on in the background with some random movie playing (4), a tablet for playing a game every now and then (5) and then a personal laptop (6) for Reddit and NikeTalk where there is a lot of type interaction. It's nuts.

I think it has to do with FOMO (fear of missing out). Last week I sat down and watched a movie without any distractions and it was so enjoyable. I have to cut back on the screens.

It's not the phone.

People need to understand the importance of discipline in life
It’s hard to convince people (youth especially) that discipline when it comes to phone, when something’s a mental effect and they’re not being tangibly, physically affected.

Just because you live an “ain’t s*** life” don’t put those stipulations on me. You must be a male telemarketer.

I guess you are One of those men who gossip on the phone like females
I sense a lot of toxic masculinity energy coming from you.

I’m in my early 30’s and went to HS/college just as smartphones were becoming more and more accessible. I don’t use my phone as much as younger people who grew up with them at a much earlier age.

Yup! As old school as it gets and any male saying “toxic masculinity”… shame on him and the males who influenced his life…

I don’t subscribe to that ideology at all. Men still need to be men IN collaboration with women being liberated. Not hard to understand that they can co-exist and a topic for different thread.

You need a hug, bro?

Because “gay” and “masculine” are not oxymorons. That’s your preconceived perception of homosexuality. The Booty Warrior. Perfect examplez
I've never seen a masculine gay person unless they are in the closet.

Name me one masculine gay person

The ones that are public with it act hella fruity

They guy from Regular Car Reviews.....I still haven't thrown out the idea he's trolling.
Pretty much every dude that did over 10 years in the pen.
Its hard for me to name celebs because I don't know how most of them act off camera.

Weird thing to be so ignorantly confident about, as if he were inside the culture. Given he was even in that thread...

Yeah I work with a few gay co-worker and one is a life-long martial artist while the other one is a body builder. You wouldn’t know either one is gay until they tell say something about it.

Speaking of martial arts isn’t the original Red Power Ranger, Jason, gay in real life?

Are cell phones masculine or not, I need some answer of some sort

Like all addictions it took me way too long to admit, understand, and overcome this problem. Your phone is designed to be as addictive as possible and the manufacturers do a fantastic job of that. Everything from your apps, to notifications, to social media is designed to sap your time and attention; as they say, if the product is free, you are the product. Every where I go I see the same thing; people hunched over looking down at their phones. People walking aimlessly whilst looking down at their phone- ready to walk into you because they're not looking where they are going. People driving and looking down at their phones. It's getting out of control. Worse, it's getting normalized.

We know this isn't healthy. So what can we do? The biggest step for me was taking a job where I couldn't bring my phone inside. That was major, but still when I went home I had the same problem. Checking social media every break in a conversation. It seemed like with every pause in life I was scrolling and double tapping. So I got rid of all my social medias. I made my bedroom a no-phone zone. I bought an alarm clock so that my phone wasn't the first thing I looked at in the morning. I set my do not disturb to come on at 8 p.m.

When I'm doing things I don't bring my phone with me. When I watch a movie I may put my phone in another room. I bought the smallest phone apple made so that it would force me to use the phone less. Coming to this site on my 12 mini is always a chore with all the ads and small buttons. I don't take calls while I'm driving. I just lie and say the wind noise is too great and call them back later. Nobody needs to reach me RIGHT NOW and whenever they want. You can wait until I am in the proper mental space to speak with you.

If you have any tips and experiences, please leave them below. Your phone is an amazing piece of machinery that can do many things. But too much of anything is never good for you. You don't have to be a slave to your phone if you don't want to.
Instagram killed society. Funny how Will Ferrell and T.I. had that “Do it for the gram!” “I ain’t gon do it!” joke going on and then everyone did any and everything for the gram. Facebook became for family/relationships and instagram became all about sliding in DMs… then came snapchat, a lot of freaky things happened on there before you could save much to anywhere lol. Lames who never got a second look at school reinvented themselves online and it was a wrap… like you would’ve never talked to chubby Amy on college campus if you saw her, but them IG angles be crazy and then when you meet up with her, rather than leave empty handed you still opt for some top… and the cycle exponentially grows lol. Not to mention how many coyote uglies turned into families -_- now them same folks online all day tryna figure out a way out the situation IG and snapcjat and tinder got them in hahahaha Vicious loop //////////

it would be cool if google and facebook did not make adsense so lucrative… i think it is a way to usher in universal basic income. Next thing you know, no one will have any actual skills except becoming popular and the new celebs will be those who aren’t online anywhere but rogue places like NT. And all those ******** girls? Its cute now but life is long and many of the female freakazoids end up living very miserables lives after age 40-45. Look how many porn stars quit during and after covid lol. That should have been key for a lot of people.

Oh yeah and a lot of “influencers” are actually gov’t workers…. I did not know broadcasting and film and journalism spilled into personal accounts online….

I made more than $100k using my phone though. I think we forget to factor in that yeah it might be a few people that only use it to consume and gossip but some actually getting the full use out of this $1300 device. Like setting automations and actually using notepad and calendar and the alarms and the world clocks lol etc etc. not just IG and text messages and Twitter… i mean X . I got next level pictures also. Rare moments polaroids would not be quick enough for. I hate the type that go to protest just for the hashtag action
