College Basketball "off-season" Thread (players leaving/coaching changes/recruiting)

Yo allen I agree with you about this Jennings kid.

Something about him. I tell my friends all the time he is skilled but needs serious work, he decision making is not as good as ppl seem. He makes a pass to getan AST not to make the right play. He says dumb things, and he seems as far away from humble as can be. With that said he is young, and has time to develop solets not rule the kid out.

Yo how do u see Chris playing next year? I know your probably in love with him but gimme like a real breakdown of what you see and how you think he will leadgtown. you see him going pro? maybe in a year or two?

Chris' size will keep him around at least 3 years, most likely 4.

I assume he'll have his struggles taking over full time, hopefully his ankle is 100% cause he's gona be logging big minutes.

He adds another dimension, certainly.

- Love his motor, his D, and his ability to drive and kick. Breaking the press will be much easier with him back their and he can hit the 3 ball.

- He has, HAS to become a better FT shooter. He'll be going to the line quite a bit and can't be a liability there. Other than that he just needs topolish some things and grasp the offense. Get a little stronger as well.

Taking over for Wallace won't be easy but his talents far outweigh Jon's and can make things more explosive.

I've been saying people will see a different team and offense with Wright and Monroe in the lineup compared to Wallace and Hibbert.

All you need to know about recruiting you can find from Facebook….dont believe me? Check out what Daniel Orton wrote on a group wall that is called "Daniel Orton, Please come to UK"

Hey, i promise this is the real Daniel Orton. i joined this group looking for help recruiting a few players to UK with me. John Wall, John Henson, Mason Plumlee and Terrence Boyd. I feel with atleast two of the guys along with me we can bring in the 8th national title to UK. John Henson and Mason Plumlee i know have already committed. Im working on pulling them out of that. I feel though with the UK fan support we can bring these guys all to Kentucky

And before you ask, this is Daniel Orton's real account that wrote the post. Facebook….the Scout.com of a new generation….

That bum will not steal John Henson away from the Heels

EDIT- And that has to be a recruiting violation b/c of the correspondence between the fans and a recruit.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) -- Former Iowa State star Wesley Johnson says he intends to transfer to Syracuse.

The 6-foot-7 forward told The Post-Standard of Syracuse he made the decision after visiting the upstate New York campus this past weekend. Johnson is picking Syracuse over Ohio State, Pittsburgh and West Virginia.

Johnson averaged 12.4 points per game for Iowa State last season. As a freshman, he averaged 12.3 points and 7.9 rebounds per game, earning a spot on the Big 12 Conference's All-Rookie team.

According to NCAA transfer rules, Johnson must sit out the 2008-09 season. He will have two years of eligibility after that. He plans to enroll in summer school classes at Syracuse beginning Monday.

A number of players lives changed on Thursday night when David Stern said their name over the podium at the NBA Draft. Andre Dawkins didn't hear his name called at Madison Square Gardenbut his life changed because he made a big time college decision.

Andre Dawkins made the call to Duke on Thursday night.

Dawkins made the call to Duke University and committed to the ACC powerhouse on Thursday night.

"I took a visit there on Monday and really felt comfortable with it," Dawkins said. "I felt really comfortable with the players and, of course,Coach K speaks for himself. I talked to him for a while and he made me feel like I was wanted there."

The sharp-shooting five-star player from the class of 2010 makes perfect sense in Duke's style of play. Dawkins said he liked the opportunity to shine inthe Blue Devils system.

"Coach K told me that they will be losing some guards and with the way that they play their guards, there was a good opportunity for me to go in and playthere right away," Dawkins said. "It just seemed like a great fit for me style wise."

Academics were also a major selling point, Dawkins said.

"That's a big part of it. That was extremely important to me in a lot of ways," Dawkins said.

Georgetown and Maryland were also in it down the stretch, Dawkins said. Steve Wojciechowski was the lead recruiter for the five-star and Dawkins is the firstplayer to commit to Duke in the 2010 class.

Dawkins was on campus at the same time as 2010 five-star Josh Hairston, a 6-foot-8 forward from Virginia.
Hairston names favorites
Talk about it in Devil Insider
Spotsylvania (Va.) Courtland five-star power forward Joshua Hairston met Mike Krzyzewski for the first time on Tuesday, and the experience was as enjoyable as he had hoped it would be. The trip, which completed his tour of his top programs, also allowed the 6-foot-8, 210 pounder an opportunity to get his first look inside the program and find out what makes the Duke Blue Devils tick.

Josh Hairston is down to three schools.

"It was a great experience just being able to meet a legend in college basketball like Coach K," Hairston said. "They really treated me like I was family and I really appreciated that.

"Coach K basically let me know what Duke can do for me both educationally and athletically. He said he didn't believe in putting me in a category for a specific position, because it sometimes keeps players from working on all areas of their game. He did say that he could see me working out almost like Kyle Singler, where I can play low and on the outside some.

"He talked about how winning 22 games or 25 games is not the goal at Duke. It may be a great season for some schools, but at Duke their goal is to win a championship every year. You can't hate on them because they want to win."

While Hairston was self-admittedly very excited about his trip to Durham, he said at this point in the process he does not know what school he will choose, however, he did indicate that a decision could be coming sooner than later. Though a lot is still up in the air, the one thing he does know is what programs he'll be choosing from.

"My top three, and this is in no order, is Virginia Tech, Duke and Ohio State," Hairston added. "I really like all three schools, I think I'll be coming to a decision soon - maybe in the next couple of weeks or so. If I know where I want to go, I'll have no problems going ahead and announcing it. I've been doing a lot of studying on these schools, so I know a lot about each one."

With three schools now sitting atop his list, Hairston walked Devils Illustrated through what intrigues him about each program.

"All three have great coaches and I have really good relationships with each of them, so they all have that in common," he said. "With Duke obviously Coach K and everything they have been able to do there. They are a great program and a great school and I just like everything about them. I'm friends with Nolan Smith and he's a great guy. They're bringing in great players, so that's exciting, too.

"I've been to Virginia Tech several times and I feel comfortable on the campus. I just went up there for an elite camp and to just visit and relax the day before I came to Duke and I enjoyed myself a lot. They just need a couple more guys to come in and take them to the next level, and they have a couple guys in the 2009 class who committed that I know.

"Ohio State is bringing in a lot of great players, too. The coaches are great, too. I went up their for a visit during the football season when they played Michigan and I like it a lot. It's a little further out there and away from home, but with Ohio State it's a school I can make an exception with.

"With Duke and Virginia Tech, my grandparents and cousins will be able to come to my games because they are close to both of them. They live in Martinsville, Va., so that would be a great thing for them to see me play."

On Thursday night, fellow classmate and Virginia native Andre Dawkins offered his verbal pledge to Duke. Shortly after he did so, the newest Blue Devil commit sent Hairston, whom he has become good friends with, a text message informing him of the news. Early Friday morning, Dawkins sent him another one.

"Andre sent me a text Thursday night saying he was probably going to commit to Duke soon, then I got another text from him saying that he had committed. When he said soon, I thought he meant in the next couple of days, not the next 30 minutes," Hairston said with a laugh. "He also sent me another text this morning asking me if I was going to commit and telling me to come to Duke.

"Duke was Andre's dream school, so he never stopped talking about Duke at camps and when I played on the Boo Williams team. We also played together at the Nike Hoop Jamboree and we have a lot of fun. He's a great scorer and we click on the court when we play together.

"He'll definitely stay on me about coming to Duke until I commit to a school."

At the time Dawkins was committing to Duke, Hairston was near the end of a day he'll never forget.

"The NBA Draft was great," he said. "We all knew from watching in the media that Michael (Beasley) was going to go second in the draft, but it was great to see him walk across the stage. We (DC Assault) took some 10 and 11 year old AAU teams to watch the draft with us and they were upset he didn't go first, but we knew.

"It was another great experience, though. I thought about it while I was sitting there. It's every kids' dream to sit down there and wait for their name to be called. Just watching it, you know that all of those guys worked hard to get there. That was probably the purpose of this trip, to let us know that it takes hard work to get places like that, but if you put in that work, those dreams can come true for you as well.

"It really was a great experience."
If we can't beat out VT....Then I dunno what to say....

Ehh...

...not to say Duke can't land him, they're right there. And are going to be down to his final call.

But he's been a G'Town lean for a while now. So unless something drastic recently occurred, that doesn't add up. (from the 2-3 people I'd trustmost with recruiting info, still stand pat in saying he is a G'Town lean)

I think it's; G'Town, Duke and Ohio State.

With the first two going toe to toe for him.

Yeah, Im saying though.

Why didn't he mention G-Town? Unless he's trying to keep it on the sly...

And yeah, I feel you on the duke slanted article....But every school's writers on rivals are biased somewhat. I don't think they would be biased enoughto leave out mention of G-Town though....

It's ok....Hopefully he's in the house when we smash y'all this year
