biggest mistake with a lease is that the contracts, terms are made in favor of the dealer.
bottom line, if u arent in good financial standing, you‘re being sucked dry. if u gotta finance for a new vehicle, you are doing it for the sake of resolving a need. financial advice is about making the best decision, given the situation.

Idk where you be driving but my car i had it since 2008 and I got with 65K miles and now it just has 105K. Unless you do out of state trips then I get it. And back to my point as the other use said you will never find a 3 year old x5 for 18K. He would of never gotten the chance to get the latest model and stayed with the old doing more expensive financing monthly bills if he didn't lease.

Bare bones second gen X5 with minimal options can be had for cheap after 3 years. Maybe not 18K but 20-25K easily. Especially since it's been redesigned with the third gen currently on the market

That's funny why don't you search 2012 X5s since that's 3 years ago and see results from cars.com and autohaus. They all range from 30-40 grand even the V6 model. Sure you will find one for 18K [emoji]128514[/emoji][emoji]128514[/emoji]

This is what I'm going to do with the Silverado I'm going to buy. Looking to put no less than 15K down and pay no more than 35K out the door. A crew cab LT Z71 with the 4 wheel drive
I will have about 4 years of very steady work after that with a raise about every half year. so I did the math and I'd still be on track to buy a house 4 years after that, depending on how the market would be looking. Plus, the way I'd take care of it it'll last me 15+ years. And all of your guys's girls will love riding in it.

How old are you? Only an idiot buys a car at list price. I can pull up with 24K cash and walk away with those 30-40K listings and I've done this on more than one occasion

Financing isn't going to be an issue for kids and individuals that don't carry a mortgage or don't pay rent. The purchase of a car is just a line item for 'many'. People juggle between not just car payments, maintenance, gas, or car insurance. They juggle with tuition, living expenses, food, utilities, medical and many others. Guys here talk hard because they can devote their whole paycheck into a ride. They sound silly and they try to troll and talk about some bull crap lifestyle, but it's so obvious - it's not even worth exposing or talking about.
But at the end of the day, you choose how you want to live and how you want to spend. It's not anyone's business afterall. But for legit individuals seeking legit POVs, please help them out. Homeowners need renters, just as much as renters need land lords.

If I had $24K free cash/budget on a car, I wouldn't double down and buy a $40K car. I would actually see if I could finance for 0% APR, or see if there was a loan that made sense. Let's get real, someone with $24K at their disposable obviously has no expenses, and so debt loads are little to none, and therefore credit history will actually win you a good loan. I would then use leverage the cash as a cushion to finance the car, and as a safety net.
You don't need to buy into the hype about investing the cash. People here are confused about leverage, and liquidity. Simply put, they do not understand the time value of money and do not understand cash flows.
The thing I don't understand is that people do not realize the importance of 'cash'!! Managing a paycheck takes time, storing little bit into the reserves will do you much good. It offers a peace of mind, a safety net. Therefore, getting into a favorable loan allows FLEXIBILITY. If you do the math, do the thinking about the cost over the life of the actual car, say 10-15 years (IME), it is worth it. I had hand me downs, and it allowed me to actually learn a bit about cars - but that's another story. These companies are smart though, they need the demand to survive, and often times, it comes at the expense of the quality. We've seen this w/ designer bags like LV, Honda/ Toyota, BMW, appliances, tvs. etc. But, that is another topic of discussion.
