Question: What did we say Game 12 of Last Season (arbitrary number) ? Pau has to learn to play with Bynum... Did that ever happen? Answer is no.
He blamed trade talk. When it was clear he wasn't getting traded last season. He never picked up for more than a game at a time.
This year when it was clear Pau wasn't going to get traded because we just got Nash and refused to part with him for Dwight... Now what? He's gotta learn it. How long do we wait? A full year for him to "get it together"?

But Pau is the best complimentary big for Dwight IMO. If only he can toughen up and be more aggressive, it'll be like the 09 pau. I say, let's just wait until Nash returns and see how everything shape up

If Pau toughens up. IF.

But honestly he's not the best complimentary for Dwight. At least not offensively.. We went through this with Bynum as well..

Pau is not a complimentary big.

So is Pau the ONLY reason we're losing? get that **** out of here. He's not the only reason we lost 7 games. PLEASE, just wait till Nash comes back before saying that.
Do you comprehend what you read? No he's not the singular reason why we are losing but he is the BIGGEST reason why we are. I don't even understand how you can't grasp that by now.

We have to try different things for Pau first.. That's fair.. How long does he get? Mid- January.. And he better play 75% good games. RIght now he's only at 7 good/passable games... 6 bad games 1-5 in his bad games. Just FYI

Step 1.. Lamar Odom role.. Starting now. For the lifespan of his contract if he lasts that long.

But I will say this having another defensive SF. And biting the bullet with a lesser PF. in exchange for Pau. Is worth it immensely. Especially against teams like the Thunder, Heat.

“I’m getting most all my looks as jump shots,” Gasol said. “I would like to see something close to the basket, and not just by rolling – especially when Dwight is there. But we’ll see. We’ll figure it out. We just started, pretty much.”

Gasol also said: “How I get going is by getting in the paint and creating off the post and things like that. That’s historically how I’ve been very successful and how I’ve made a really good name for myself and earned my contracts. But hopefully I’ll find a way or we’ll find a way to get me a few opportunities there, too, and to get myself going that way and to be more effective.”
He's right.

It's just difficult to incorporate.

I agree... But if that's what he wants. Then it's time to move him out of the starting lineup.. He's going to have to swallow his pride.

Cut Dwight down to 34-36 minutes.
Pau down to 28-30

Jamison to 16-20
Hill to 14-20

Move Jamison to the starting lineup.

Jamison Howard 20 minutes together
Hill & Pau 14 minutes together
Pau & Howard 14 minutes together

Pau plays 14 minutes by himself. 14 minutes with Howard,
We have seen him play with the backups this year and nothing gets done. He has had post opportunities also and he's usually pushed off his spots. He's just not a good post player anymore which is why he drifts like he does. I'd like to see Jamison start at the very least if we can't move him.

2004

Pau has zero excuse for his effort and players taking the ball away from his hands though. He will get in the post only to be bodied up.

If you don't value advanced metrics, then ignore this. It's from a couple days ago:
Pau Gasol is Playing Poorly

Gasol’s career stats, via the NBA Geek (average WP48 is 0.100, great is 0.200+)

1000

Alright, poorly is probably a bit harsh. The truth is Pau Gasol is playing above average. There’s a problem with this though. Gasol has gone from being a franchise changing player (Laker fans have forgotten that stretch between 2005 and 2008…) to merely being an average big. It’s easy to pull out the “poor” label, as Pau is a shadow of what he’s been his whole career.

If we examine Pau’s stats at the NBA Geek, we see he isn’t really playing that worse in most areas. Yes his rebounds, assists, blocks are a bit below his career average but not by much. And on the flip side, his turnovers, fouls,* and steals are actually above average. What’s the real cause of his decline? I was actually given the answer rather succinctly via Twitter:

1000

Of course, where’s the fun in not digging into the data more (which shows the Team Rebound is spot on.) So let’s examine Gasol’s shooting. Let’s start with shot selection.

Gasol’s Shot Career Shot Selection (% from each location)

1000

Gasol has definitely made a change in strategy. You see that spike in 16 footers to 3 pointers? Yup, that’s this season. In fact, it shows a frightening trend. Before 2012, Gasol had never taken more than 15% of his shots from that far out. The last two seasons, he’s increased the trend to 24% last season and now over 30%! Additionally, we can see Gasol’s shooting at the rim has hit a career low. This season is the first time in his career he’s shot less than 1/4 of his shots rights at the rim. And this is a bad thing as we’ll see when we examine his shooting percentages.

Gasol’s Career Shooting Efficiency by location

1000

In examining Gasol’s shooting efficiency, it’s only really degraded in the 3-9 foot range. And we can see he is actually taking close to his career low in terms of shots from that region. His shooting both at the rim and from 16 feet to 3pt range ia in fact right around average for his career. Gasol’s decline is thus not his skills degrading, but rather his shot selection degrading. Whether this is the fault of the coach or the system remains to be seen. Regardless, the problem with Gasol becomes very simple when we zoom in.

Summing Up

I’m in the middle of Loose Balls: The Short Wild Life of the American Basketball Association. I just finished reading about Slick Leonard (who deserves his own post, bug me if you don’t see one in the near future.) Slick Leonard was the Phil Jackson of the ABA. He took the 1969 Pacers, who had a 2-7 record, and ended up taking them to the Finals in his first season. His team went to 5 finals and won three of them. From Loose Balls, here’s a story that reminded of the Gasol situation:

He saw Mel Daniels take a jump shot from outside the foul line, and he stopped practice and just screamed at Mel. Then Slick took a piece of chalk and drew a circle near the basket. “There,” said Slick, pointing to the chalk mark. “That’s where you’re supposed to shoot from.”

Here’s hoping D’Antoni has chalk (although, the shot chart from his first game as Lakers’ coach doesn’t instill optimism) I wouldn’t give up on Gasol yet. In spite of his age and declining productivity (which lead me to say he should be traded.), the fact is we can explain it. If Gasol is no longer able to take close shots, then yes he’s not worth his contract. If Gasol can be convinced to take closer shots then there’s hope. All I can say is that it’s a bizarre year when Kobe is playing great and I’m advising Gasol to take a lesson from him.

Pau is Best when he is playing center.
When LO was at the 4 Pau played fantastic.
08-10 it was all Pau at center, besides when Bynum started and didn't even play a lot under Phil.
I don't see how a lot of you guys dont see that. It's the coaches fault for taking him out of the paint.

I'm not officially on TFPG, but it's close.

It is what it is, though. Son is a Laker, so I hope he stops being stubborn & soft.

He's was soft then and he's softer now. He got pushed around then and he gets pushed around even more now. He's older and his game is declining fam face the facts. It's not 08-10 anymore. Dude is a serious problem. Besides, we didn't win anything until Bynum was able to man the paint. As recall, Boston made Pau look like a lil B****.

And then Pau went toe to toe against Dwight Howard and Kevin Garnett in consecutive Finals and outplayed them. But I digress...

We didn't win jack until Bynum was manning the middle and that's a fact. We got slaughtered with Pau playing the center and that's another fact. Pau WAS a great player but his best days are long gone another fact. But I digress.........

You mean when Bynum was playing 17 and 24 minutes per in those respective championship runs?

So are we all agreed that Pau needs to be the Lamar Odom role in a sense.

I.e.

Quarter 1:
12:00 - 4:00 Dwight & Pau
4:00 - 0:00 Dwight & Jamison

Quarter 2:
12:00 - 5:00 Pau & JHill
5:00 - 0:00 Dwight & Jamison

Quarter 3:
12:00 - 9:00 Dwight & Pau
9:00 - 6:00 Dwight & Jamison
6:00-0:00 Pau & JHill

Quarter 4:
12:00 - 10:00 Dwight & Hill
10:00 - 6:30 Dwight & Jamison
6:30 - End of Game Dwight & Pau

PF: Pau (17:30)/ Jamison (16:30) / Hill (15)
C: Howard (34) / Pau (14)

Pau's minutes are cut down a lot. But if this is what needs to be done. So he gets his shine. It needs to be done. There's no way to get him what he wants, and stay at 36 minutes.

I think at 28-31. Pau will be most effective.

Key is for Pau's 14 at C. Nash has to be on the floor. Nash - Meeks - ??? - Hill & Gasol for 14 minutes per game. Actually 95% of the minutes Pau is on the floor. Nash better be out there. Since Nash is 25-28 most effective. There will be a little bit of a gap.

I'm all for the Dwight/Jamison and Pau/Hill combo. If Pau wants more touches in the paint, it won't happen with Dwight being there. His obvious choice is to play along side Hill. Dwight needs space to operate, and Jamison being a stretch 4 will help that. Its good to see that our bench, especially the two guys that need to be going, Jamison and Meeks are starting to show up.

So lets play Dwight with Jamison and Pau with Hill.

move Pau to the bench and let's see how he doing. Put Jamison at the 4.

You can do it with him as a starter. I agreed with you until I remembered his psyche is :rolleyes :( Putting him on the bench won't help him play better.. Cut his minutes to about 31 (he even said he is playing too many minutes. So here's the opportunity to put him to less minutes). Leave him as starter. And give him like 16-17 with Dwight.. All 1st & 4th quarter, and 3 minutes to start the 2nd Half. 14 by himself.

Also if we do this. Dwight has to be at 34 minutes.. He's used to being at 38. But it HAS TO HAPPEN..

Every single starter on this team has to shave a few minutes from their time.

Pau's psyche is my biggest issue w/ him.

Also, how the HAYL did Dwight have 7 & 4? THAT'S the kind of stuff I said I understood where VanGundy was coming from. When you're as during&tall as him and you can jump out the gym, 7 & 4 is inexcusable.
