I have friends with business degrees and they go into interviews wearing black suits. My brother does as well. I doubt the interviewer looks at them negatively for wearing it and not following the idea that the internet hates black suits. People always say there aren't rules for clothes but then they say there things you shouldn't wear.
Father is a CEO, cousin is an HR manager, and my aunt is a recruiter for big oil. During the holidays they get together and talk about peps during interviews. One think they all agree on is a black suit. They said its the younger generation that come in fresh off the red carpet. It's all fine and dandy, but they generally dont give a damn. Especially if you intimidate the interviewer or the interview is crap. In the HR world they will tell other HR friends about you at other companies. I had a good friend learn the hard way. I told him a black suit and he just couldn't figure why he couldnt land a good job. His first was crap and other HR managers say him coming from a mile away. I know this because he interviewed with on my pops friends. He switched and got the job.
Black shows conformity, any other may suggest you may be a problem.
I can see suits other than black working in some interviews for certain jobs and in certain parts of the country. If you are a business major, you better be wearing a black suit. Especially in the south.
They said its the younger generation that come in fresh off the red carpet.
So they come in wearing fitted suits as opposed to someone who is older than might be wearing a sack suit? It's about personal preference so I don't see this being a problem, especially for a younger person who may only have a single suit that they wear for several functions.
Especially if you intimidate the interviewer
Intimidate? Do you mean if you try to flaunt by wearing cufflinks, loud pocket square, Hermes tie, etc?
I told him a black suit and he just couldn't figure why he couldnt land a good job.
So your friend would have gotten a job if he wore a black suit over a navy or charcoal? That's funny considering this:
It's all fine and dandy, but they generally dont give a damn.
You're friend likely wasn't cut for the job.
other HR managers say him coming from a mile away
Care to elaborate?
He switched and got the job.
Again, care to elaborate? Was it the same exact position, location and interviewer with the only variable being the suit color?
I'm not trying to go at you or hate, I'm just trying to look for clarification. You seem to be black or bust(word to Kim K) when it comes to suit colors for an interview. I understand how it might be acceptable but you make it seem like it's a necessity.
) so I busted out a classic fit I would've rocked maybe just two years back just for old times sake..hope you all enjoy
everything makes sense why you're alway super dressed to the tee for rather menial events
