DS 09 jams question and tips.

I took a look at my DS 09 jams today and their starting too yellow. So I decided to wear them. Just wear them because they will yellow no matter What you do.

I Un-DS'd my Space Jam's a little over 2 weeks ago. I used a pair of those Sole Savers on them. The Sole Savers left super sticky residue on the soles. When I took them off, I cleaned them with my usual Jason Mark shoe cleaner and I couldn't get the soles clean. Let's just say, that the sole savers were so, sticky that I still have not been able to get the sticky resin completely off of my Jams; even when I used alcohol swabs as they/Sole Savers recommends. Now my Space Jam's are starting to yellow right between/where the blue sole and icy soles meet. The shoes are still good, but don't waste your money on those sole savers. They can end up contributing to the yellow sole problem. I believe that the residue from the Sole Savers held in the moisture in those two previously stated areas and now they're yellowing. Let me mind you that I clean my shoes the same day or following morning (depending on how late I get home) after I wear them and it took less than 2 weeks for them to yellow in the spots were I couldn't get the sticky remains off. I just noticed this problem the other day and had to clean them 4 more times before I finally got the sticky residue off.

Basically, no matter what precautions you use...they're going to yellow. Just enjoy the shoes and take care of them. I have 2 more Space Jam's on Ice, so I'm really not tripping, but let's just say that I'm not going to use the 2nd pair of un-used Sole Savers on any of my other shoes. I've never had my icy soles get yellow that quickly after Un-DS'ing them, so needless to say; this was an highly unusual experience for me.

I do use one silicon pack per shoe box to slow down the oxidation (No more than one) and I've never had dry leather nor cracked soles due to using one silicon pack per shoe box. By using one silicon pack per shoe box, my shoes were still able to breath and the silicon pack kept the moisture to a minimum and without taking away all of the moisture that my leather needs. Use your silicon packs in moderation and you should be good. I've been able to Un-DS shoes 6-7+ years after purchase and I've never had any problems. No cracking, sole separations or non of those horror stories that we all hear about. I would never, ever bag my shoes, because the shoes need to breath (Hence, the reason why JB put holes in the static bags for the Infrared Packs) and they still need some moisture, so the materials don't get hard.

Mine's still DS and will probably keep it like that for now, well until I get myself a pair of Bred XI and the upcoming release of Cool Grey XI anyways.
I keep mine inside my closet in a shelf on top of the clothes. I guess my advice is keep the shoes in a cool area, where no moisture can get in.

I still don't understand how this ziplock bag and plastic wrap thing got started. You never want to suffocate natural materials. They need to breath. All that happens is you remove the moisture necessary to keep the materials from cracking in the first place.
