Nothing against people that get engaged. I am always happy when people get engaged.

So I have been with my girl friend for 3 1/2 year. We have talked to about marriage and usually we agree with it, but I just feel that I will get engaged when I think I am ready to get engaged. So she finds out her friend is engaged less than a year being with the guy (nothing against him hes a good dude) and now my girl friend is giving me sh*t about this whole. Definitely unappreciated .

Has Anybody else had this problem before?

I can see why she'd get bothered by it; it's just in our nature to always compare our position in life w the next girl... well, some of us. She just needs to understand that while it may be ok for that dude to propose to his gf after only a year of courtship, you just don't think it's a good idea to jump into that bandwagon so sudden. Try and understand where she's coming from, being with a guy for +3 years & not seeing any "physical" progression, & explain why you feel its too soon.

IF she's worth becoming a possible Mrs., she'll learn to accept it.

She should be happy you guys aren't rushing it. I would decline if a guy proposed in less than a year.

but I just feel that I will get engaged when I think I am ready to get engaged.
here's what I realized.
you'll never be 100% ready

at one point in my life.. I thought..
I'll do it when I'm financially ready
then it became
I'll do it when my career is underway
then it became
I'll do it when I've saved up money for a house
then it became
I'll do it after "XX" amount of years of being together

see where I'm going?... there's always an excuse

that being said...
you SHOULD NOT get engaged b/c
that's what everyone else is doing
that's just the next step for relationships
your friends/parents/gf is pressuring you

However, you SHOULD get engaged b/c
this is the woman you love, want to be with for the rest of your life and makes you feel whole....AND (and this is a bit contradictory) you feel ready to make that next step

Well anyways I see what you are trying to say dirty. I just think that I need to get some things out of the way before I do "take the nbext step"

I just think that I have to better myself before I share my life with someone else.

just take it in stride and calm her down. its gonna get worse leading up to the wedding...

it always happens like that...

Me and my girl have been together for over 4 years now. About 99% of my girl's friends are engaged or married. I always told her that if she wants out of the relationship to tell me why and she'll be free to be happy elsewhere. I rather have the relationship end amicably than to have her despise me and cheat on me.
