ESPN 30 for 30 "Benji"

Good watch.

The fact that he was, I believe, the 659th murder victim that year is disgusting. Where was Reverend Jesse for the other 658?

I certainly believe Moore's story but it felt to me that he was trying to justify his senseless shooting and killing.

I watched it last night and got a tear in my eye. My girl couldn't understand because she's not from Chicago. But if you grew up in this city, you would realize how much Benji's death hurt the city. The thing that's sad is that these type of murders STILL happen every day in the Chi. Couple of things to point out:

-The real reason Derrick Rose is my favorite player is because he's actually fulfilling Benji's. dream and gives the world a glimpse of what would have been

-Benji's girl declining to be interviewed was mad suspect. I bet she was a real drama queen in high school and still feels guilty about his death. People probably blamed her for years and that's the reason she moved away from Chicago.

-I believe the gunman's story, but it seems he was trying to cover his own butt after years of death threats from a lot of Chicago residents. I'll tell you that he can NEVER come back here, just like Alpo can never return to Harlem after murdering Rich Porter.

Hands down this was the best 30 for 30 yet.

Don't get me wrong, this was great a 30 for 30, but the Miami one and SMU one were great to, even the Drazen one.

The hospital incident hit hard the most.

I came into this thinking he got shot and died pretty soon after. Makes it worse he was lying there for hours prior to surgery.

cant believe I never heard of benji until watching it last night. growing up playing basketball this was close to the heart. was very sad during this and it saddens me that incidents like this happen in our world

another good story is of the boxer that was killed in the ring and his wife donated his organs to 5 different people, i teared up on that one Watch it if you guys got some time

my favorite 30 for 30 doc.

just imagine if lebron, kobe or garnett was in the same situation.

us as fans wouldve been deprived for greatness.

we missed out on something special in the sport of basketball.

I remember my uncle telling me about him when I was a shorty, prolly 10 or so, so this has always been a soft spot as a proud Chicagoian.

What Scoop said about "Had he lived... will forever be the prefix to the suffix... he would've been the baddest cat to ever come out of the city" rings so true. You talk to any old head around the city and mention his name and the way their face lights up then drops with disappointment says more than any description provided by words.

There's a coffee shop on 43rd in Bronzeville with a painting of that famous pic of Benji with the #1 symbol up. I stared at it for like 10 minute as I sat drinking my tea. His death is one of three that the city will never forget the other two are Harold Washington & Yummy Sanderfer.

I thought the same thing

This goes down with Drazan & Bias. Very sad story

I understand why Jetun wouldn't speak, because she put a innocent 15 yr old in prison, and the fact Benji passed will reopen a wound. Great story and I'm glad I got to hear it. Benji should've never got too involved with girls, but everything's for a reason. I wish Benji & Bias got that opportunity in the pros. I knw it would've been amazing.

RIP #25 #34

real heartfelt story, my best friend dad was Deon butler, he and nick share godchildren. They use to say Benji Jumper was so fluid, he would hit 100 3's in a row.
From what my pops tell me, is that he was a VL or had some affiliation just like pooh, Im sure that had something to do with his murder, more so then just a shoving match.
If it was today, i would easily say yeah they was just arguing and it got ugly, but back then every confrontation had some sort of gang beef to it, every.

so what happened? did the other guy omar have anything to do with it? were they robbing him?

Just finished watching it... The killers were only 16 & 15 :{

Good film.

Glad the directors showed Jesse Jackson's punk ***. That joke of a human cashing in on ONE murder out of many, many hundreds that year. There's a special place in hell for him and Al Sharpton.

From what I saw of him, he looked like he could have been a hybrid of Kevin Garnett and Anthony Davis.

I wonder how different things in the NBA would have been if Benji and Len Bias got to play. The league hadn't really seen anything like those two dudes.

30 for 30 is the best thing ESPN has going for it. I'm a 80's baby myself but Benji was a little bit before my time even though I had heard of him. If put into the same situation idk what I would if I was 5'8 and 6'7 cat was coming at me like that. The story raised more questions but I honestly believe Moore's side of the story
