My suggestion is to backup your files on an external and also burn your information on dvds or blurays

Besides that fact. The HD retails for $146. It has firewire 800 which trumps USB 2.0.
Speed>Storage, especially if I'm going to use it for backups.
5 year warranty.
Seems like a good deal to me or any mac user.
Also as I said before with this purchase I will own 2 500gb Mypassport studios.
They are great could not ask for anything more.

Picked up a Seagate 1tb External a few months ago for 59.99 (original price was 100, price match at best buy to Fry's)
I got it just in time too cause my old PC was acting up, so I backed up all the important files plus all media. A week after that had to reformat & lost everything! Luckily I backed it all up on the HD
Seriously, if you don't have one and have important files you don't wanna lose, you must get one. Black Friday would be a great time to pick up a HDD.

instead of buying an external drive (which coms at a premium for it being labeled as "external") you can buy a new, larger internal drive. They are less prone to failure due to them not being exposed to the daily bumps and elements, and they are significantly cheaper per GB. eSATA is a faster mode of transfering files, so you'll be miles above the USB/Firewire bottlenecks. most laptops use 2.5" drives, while many desktops use 3.5" drives. Find out the model you need and buy accordingly. You can even use an Internal drive as an external so long as you purchase an enclosure or a hub

so I would have to open up my laptop to install it? i thought the point of an external is if you lose your laptop you'll still have your stuff wouldnt this not be the case if u had an internal u would lose eerytihing
