Guide to purchasing from ebay?

So I've never actually bought anything from ebay because I just don't trust people. There has been many stories of people getting scammed.
But it's starting to seem like the only way I can find what I'm looking for is on ebay and the price is great.
Think I'm going to bite the bullet and actually buy something. So I have a couple questions.

Should I only buy from top-rated users?
I notice that most people only accept pay pal, I don't have pay pal set up and don't really know what all it is.
Do I have to connect it to my checking account? That seems a bit risky in itself as well.

Any help would be appreciated. and anything else that I should know?

If you use pay pal & get scammed, you can most likely get your money back. If you file a claim pay pal will review it & transfer you your money back. (Its all on their website).

When you set up a pay pal account it connects to your bank account. So you buy something through pay pal it takes it out from your bank account. (Unless you already have money in your pay pal account from selling things).

You can also transer money from your pay pal to your bank account.

Its overall pretty safe & worth the "risk".

i was like just you OP, i always thought nah it was too risky and all that, but i finally made an ebay account recently and i gotta tell you im addicted

but more importantly ive made about 15 purchases now and i have not had a single problem

So paypal's security is pretty legit? I wont have to worry about someone hacking into my account and then having access to my bank account?

NEVER have I had a problem with "scammers" or any of that @!$* on eBay.

It's only been on message boards where i've encountered one, which was over 6 years ago on HowardForums

paypal will cover you 100%, ive had to use it before and went smoothly and never had a doubt i wouldnt get my money back.

not too many scammers on ebay though. if anything watch out for fakes depending on what you buy.

For eBay:
Fakes-plenty
Scammers-never encountered one

Just don't gift the other person the money, pay the 4% so in case something goes wrong, you can make a dispute.

Been using eBay for over 5 years and I've never been scammed. But I take precautions.
GET paypal. not even a question if you want to be something on eBay.
Naw just because their top rated doesn't mean their better than a little guy they've just been eBay hustling longer.
If you want to make instant transfers(some eBay sellers require instant payment) then yeah. That's how I have mine set up.
Sometimes if you see a product that's not really selling well hit up the seller and ask if he'd go lower.
Most of the time it works but don't overdue it because they can block you.
Also READ the whole listing before icing a product.

Paypal always drop the ball eventually..... ALWAYS pay from your credit card balance, not your bank account or paypal balance, so your credit card company can go to bat for you.


Maybe they can't do it anymore, but some sellers used to try to get around this by only accepting payment from your paypal balance, or a bank account.
If you see that, walk away.
