No. Its just that Guru is not "one of the greatest MCs of the golden era".
Guru wasn't even a decent MC. Probably just about (or even slightly lower than) mediocre. DJ Premiere was the heart and soul of that group (you see what happened when Guru tried to go left?). Guru passing away does not change that fact.
But of course you backpackers will inflate his ranking in the all-time lists of emcees because he's dead. And not breathing apparently gives you exorbitant amounts of rap talent.

I guess everyone's entitled to their opinion but with you assuming that I'm a back-packer I find no value in your comment.....not to mention that I'm not even gonna ask if you were just one of those music critics who just merely download a few tracks off the "best-of" albums and judge his ability prematurely base on that.
Instead of being vague with your description, what exactly do you mean by "see what happened when Guru tried to go left"? Do you mean his Jazzamatazz series? or did you mean the split?
Either way your conclusion is shallow since Jazzmatazz was actually a commercial success until the 4th installment due to collaboration with Solar....That being said, that should not even be a factor in evaluating his lyrical skills which is 100X better than ANYBODY alive rite now.....
Now since you made a presumptuous comment of me being a "back-packer" I would then go ahead and say you are probably a "beat-only listner" who pays little to no attention to lyrics based one how you commented Guru being "lower than mediocre". Why you might ask? I doubt you can even decipher most of the deeper references in his lyrics.
Plus your comment is as shallow as criticizing the first man who invented the wheel being primitive comparing to technology nowadays....it is a bias judgement since without the past architect of the culture setting the bar, hip hop would only be a fad than a movement.
So in your opinion who is better than? Lil wayne?
Please don't even try to relate his passing and tribute to Hype...cause hype is the only thing that is convincing folks nowadays that Soulja Boy is half decent
