covid denier (who also is still pushing hcq and is anti-mask) tries to argue that scientific paper shows that 80% of people are already immune to covid. the author of that paper explains that his paper does not show that at all.

another good thread on this topic (gives many examples of >20% of people getting infected, indicating that 20% is not enough to get herd immunity):

Bought some Germ-X hand sanitizer from Target today. Didn’t realize it only had 62% alcohol compared to Purell and others But anything over 60 will do.

Followup: as odd as may seem, CDC actually has a sanitizer faq. Useful info.

Also FDA current list of toxic sanitizer brands is up to 149 as of 8/12. Think how fast that list grew.

Their financial position is a disaster. They were on the verge of bankruptcy and that convertible note deal they closed on isn't too promising and has lots of awful features. Given their cash burn rate they will blow through those funds if consumers don't go back to pre-covid attendance levels. The film industry isn't too big to fail like the airline industry and was struggling long before covid. There is a reason why AMC and others went to the monthly subscription model. Netflix and other streaming services are going to start getting direct to release films for a fee the longer this goes on and I could see In person movies losing more market share the longer this goes.

Because you declare bankruptcy doesn't mean you go out of business.

The film industry is too big to fail. What exactly will you watch?

The blockbuster movies help studios finance smaller budget movies. They have to pay back that $250 million that it cost to make Tenet, because they aren't making that streaming.

Netflix doesn't make money. Amazon doesn't make money off streaming.
