Also the virus now is generally much more “weaker”
Surprised to hear this. Have only read of possibly more virulent VOC’s, which has often been debunked but never stated LESS virulent. It’s more likely the elderly are now vaccinated and younger patients are less likely to get severely ill.

Here are the new guidelines for May 21:
  • No density limits will be in place for retail stores, offices, museums, bowling alleys and libraries. Masks must still be worn unless someone is alone in an office.
  • Theaters and other gatherings with fixed seating both indoors and outdoors (this includes stadiums) will be capped at 50% capacity with a minimum of 3 feet of space, rather than 6 feet. Masks must still be worn.
  • Outdoor venues with no seating can have 33 people per 1,000 square feet and 3 feet of distance must be followed.
  • No maximum number of people for outdoor catered events, but the events are capped at 50%.
  • Gyms and indoor pools can operate at 75% capacity or 15 people per 1,000 square feet. Exercise classes are capped at 25 people.
  • Outdoor pools have no limits.
  • Indoor dining capacity in Philadelphia restaurants remains at the current level of 50% for all eateries and 75% for those businesses that meet "enhanced ventilation standards." Seat backs can, however, be within 3 feet to allow for more customers.
  • Alcohol can be purchased and consumed without food.
  • Casinos face the same 50%, 75% limits that restaurants do. Groups must be 3 feet apart and alcohol can be served at gaming machines.
  • Indoor catered events — which the city considers the "riskiest" — won't budge from the 25% occupancy with a cap of 150 persons, including staff, if there is dancing and alcohol being served. Up to 250 people will be allowed as long as there is no music, dancing or alcohol.
Detailed guidance is expected by week's end, the city said.

surprised they’re making these leaps this soon.Earlier than NYC IIRC. Not mad at it but seems nit picky at this point? 3ft distancing for what?

At this point, I honestly think alot of places are moving from trying to protect people from their own stupidity to letting them make decisions for themselves. The type of person who is willing to take off their mask and eat/drink in a crowded indoor spot has either had COVID or is willing to take the risk of getting it. Nobody can honestly say they didn't know the risk by now. Cases are low and falling, hospitals aren't overwhelmed, and any adult who wants to be vaccinated can get an appointment. My only gripe at this point is that my kids' school already announced next fall they will no longer be offering distance learning and classes will be back to regular (FULL) capacity following CDC's (BS) 3ft spacing guidelines. I think they should have at least offered the option until all age groups can be vaccinated. I know for a fact not all of the teachers and staff have been vaccinated.

Need some opinions please :nerd:

I have a Mandala scrubs face mask(75% Polyester/ 19% Viscose/ 6% Spandex) for the outside, & then an inner cotton 3 fold system to put in PM2.5 filters in.

Do I need to mess with getting some KN95's for my immunocompromised wife, & myself when we go out into the public? We both are just getting back to going into the grocery stores for the first time in 13ish months.

Do KN95's fit better where I don't get fog underneath my glasses, because that ish annoying.

You’ll get better protection (99%+) and easier breathability with a single KF94. I wouldn’t even bother with KN95 TBH. I can send you some KF’s to try.
Is your wife vaccinated? I don’t want to scare you, but recent studies have shown significantly reduced vaccine efficacy in immune compromised individuals, depending on the situation. Solid organ transplant patients are ~15% protected after 1 dose, for example.

Appreciate the knowledge & quick comments!
My wife is fully vaccinated, her 2nd shot was mid March. She probably won't be venturing out into these type of indoor settings much at all, just in case.

she's had two kidney transplants, & some other various surgeries in regards to the urinary system.

I'd be interested for sure in those KF94's, and should stock up on some.

PM your shipping address and I’ll put some in the mail tomorrow

Just pop some Tylenol and you’ll be good. Repeat it In 8 hours. Then play it by ear after the second dose. If you feel like you don’t need it then don’t take it.

Don't want to jinx it but numbers appear to be trending down across the nation. That could all change with the upcoming holiday in few weeks but here's to being cautiously optimistic.

if the numbers are going down due to vaccinations, I don’t see them going up. CA hasn’t gone up with just about fully open now. Newsom lifting the mask mandate next month as well.

I'm not sure where people are getting this from, because I haven't seen anything about dropping the mask mandate (yet).

On June 15, all industries across the state can return to usual operations with common-sense risk reduction measures such as masking and vaccinations.

He was on local news saying masks only required in settings like conventions with people from all around. https://www.cnn.com/2021/05/12/us/california-mask-mandate/index.html

Damnit. People were saying he said it, but I hadn't seen that confirmation yet. I really hoped it was misinformation. I hope schools keep mask mandates for crowded indoor classrooms full of unvaccinated kids in the Fall.

In those settings I don’t know how much masks will do anyway tbh. Kids will be in a classroom for a lengthy period of time and the masks most use likely won’t fully protect for that long. Ventilation probably matters more.

You're absolutely right. I've heard they're keeping the doors and windows open, but my kids are doing distance learning so I can't verify. They've already said full in person instruction next year, so I'll be sending my kids in KF94 masks regardless but hope the other kids have to wear masks at least until they've been fully vaccinated. Time will tell...

I know there is funding for air purifiers or hvac upgrades. I’m not sure how many districts actually made improvements though.

It's a private school, though I've heard they applied for grants to cover COVID "upgrades" and PPE. They say they did HVAC upgrades that improved ventilation, but they also claimed they had hired professional cleaning service to sanitize the classrooms and it was a lie.
