So I've been going extra hard on the job hunt for the past few months to no avail. To my surprise I get a call today from a company called Combined Insurance. I didnt even remember applying to them because Ive been looking for mostly EMT jobs (got my certification about a month and a half ago) and never applied to sell insurance. I chalked it up to my forgetfulness and proceeded with the application process. I cemented an interview on Wednesday at a Marriott hotel. First red flag. Why dont you have a local central office?
I did a quick google search on "combined insurance Scam" and got tons of hits. Here are few interesting ones

http://www.witn.com/sunrise/headlines/43532467.html  - Insurance agent charged with fraud

http://www.ripoffreport.com/insuran...nce-c/combined-insurance-company-of-fz9ba.htm  - talks about how unethical the company is

http://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/combined-insurance-c89062.html  - a complaints message board urging people not to work there cause they are frauds

http://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/combined-insurance-c110116.html  - same board urging people to not even buy from there.

So I made this thread for a couple of reasons.

- I want to urge my fellow NTers, if you get a job offer from them, or anything that seems to good to be true do your research. There is a sucker born ever minute.

- Should I be considerate and cancel my interview or should I waste their time as they were trying to waste mine?

- How the hell did they get my contact info and where can I get an EMT job in NYC?

Cliffs

-Got an interview for a spot I dont even remember applying for

-Found out its a scam and they are frauds

-take the L or send the NT goons? (jk)

Take the L and keep it rolling. When I get emails from places like that I ask "If Ya'll ain't breaking bread move around" or something ignorant.

Don't interview.
Hopefully you didn't provide them with any W-2 information such as your social, DOB, ect.

That kinda scares me. They have my DOB and Drivers License # (job required travel). I check my credit score every 3 months but best believe I will be on it diligently filing disputes of they try some funny business.

If you Job Hunting on Craigslist. Listings that you e-mail your resume to sometimes turn out to be scam employers.

That's how they got your info. You probably sent it to them thinking you were applying for something else.

Happens a lot. At least I've gotten e-mails/calls back from things I never thought I applied for.
