Peep: The Kendrick Lewis tidbit is what I was referencing in an earlier post. He can lay the wood and provide attitude with leadership. In terms of coverage, it will hurt without Berry next to him as a safety partner.
 
That's what I keep hearing about Lewis as far as coverage goes. At least as of right now, it seems like this entire safety squad is made for the run and not the pass :lol:
 
Travis Labhart gaining confidence

DENVER -- Admittedly, I can't watch every single drill every Houston Texans' player completes during practices, as I am only one person. But when I've watched Travis Labhart, the undrafted rookie receiver out of Texas A&M, he's caught everything sent his way.

"Coaches hopefully just are beginning to trust me and players alike," Labhart said. "That begins with the quarterbacks as well, because you don’t want to trick the quarterback. Then they’re not going to look your way if they can’t count on you."

Most of Labhart's reps come with backup quarterback Case Keenum and the two have connected on some excellent throws. They are certainly gaining confidence in each other as the preseason progresses.

Labhart's progression as a receiver has been tremendous, given that he was a college walk-on not too long ago and a practice player for the A&M women's basketball team.

He's perfectly aware of just how much he's learned.

"The coaching is just phenomenal," Labhart said. "I’ve learned so much. ... In the NFL, it’s a whole new ballgame. It has opened my eyes to a whole lot of new things. I’m just learning more about the game and I think the coaching has been outstanding. Also, the veteran leadership with Andre Johnson, Mike Thomas and all those guys have been really helpful to me gaining confidence and getting better as a player."

Making the Texans' 53-man roster won't be easy for Labhart. The Texans' receiver room is crowded and he's not the only member of it who has improved in the past several months. With his play, though, he's giving himself a chance.

It's possible there may be 6 WRs kept. We know the automatic ones are Andre, DeAndre, Posey, and Martin. I think it's a given we're keeping Mike Thomas too, and honestly I'd pick him over Martin just cause from seeing him on the Jags, there's no question he'll catch the ball when you throw it. There's no shakiness like when Martin or Jacoby are getting the ball thrown to them. Labhart is fighting it out with Uzoma, Joe Adams, and Alec Lemon (as far as the most notable WRs). I'd like to see what Joe Adams can do in lengthy instances.
 
Did not read, but I'm really rooting for Labhart. He came out of nowhere last year to be great for the Aggies.
 
Am I the only one that thinks JJ's mom could get it? She is weirdly attractive in the HEB icecream commercial.

Saw some good and bad today. The 1st team defense was playing excellent until two bum penalties pretty much directly led to TDs. I did like the impact plays we had though on both sides of the ball.

I'm surprised how well we played. The end of the half was bad, but that was a pretty good test.

I really like Graham fedora and Griffin, hope BOB makes us new England south. With Gronk and Hernandez, they could run or pass out of any formation.

I'm thinking right now, Keenum may be auditioning for other teams, cause I feel we'll need more players at other positions (DE/LB/S/O-line) than QB. Keenum played very well until the pressure really picked up (both from good D play and the line just folding). I liked what I saw from Savage as far as decisiveness and his arm, which seems better than both Keenum and Fitz.
 
Just the thought of Tom Savage actually playing if Fitzpatrick gets hurt is scary :x

Texans Release Nine On Way To Shrunken Roster

HOUSTON (CBS HOUSTON) The Houston Texans have started making moves to get their roster down to the required 75 players by the Tuesday deadline.
On Monday the Texans waived 9 players, according to John McClain. The players waived were wide receivers Joe Adams and Alec Lemon, nose tackles David Hunter and Austin Brown, outside linebackers Terrance Lloyd and Lawrence Sidbury, cornerback Junior Mertile, guard Sam Longo and running back William Powell.
The Texans also placed David Quessenberry on reserve/non football illness list.
 
Same here. He's one of those guys you need on the team, just can't have a squad full of them, or else you'd have some of those previous Raiders and Lions teams. Swearinger should take note of 2009 Bernard Pollard.
 
Keenum getting the start tomorrow. Could be his last game as a Texan. I want him to succeed so much, but it's now or never for him at this point, at least as a Texan.

The Houston Texans (2-1) host the San Francisco 49ers (1-2) at NRG Stadium in the teams' final preseason game.

Three things to watch

1. Backup QB competition. Case Keenum will spend this game competing against rookie quarterback Tom Savage as they both try to win the Texans' backup quarterback job. Keenum will start. Starter Ryan Fitzpatrick will be dressed in case coach Bill O'Brien wants to throw him into a two-minute drill or some situation he wants his starter to practice. Savage had a strong game in Denver, leading a game-winning drive capped by a two-point conversion. He didn't catch Keenum, but he did make the space between to two significantly smaller. Keenum has the advantage of starting experience, but he went winless in his eight games last season.

2. Cornerbacks. The Texans cornerbacks have been an interesting study throughout the preseason. A.J. Bouye has consistently improved -- O'Brien noted, when asked about the ups and downs for Bouye, that he's had more ups than downs. He's had a lot of first-team reps with Johnathan Joseph's absence, so I'd bet we don't see much of him tonight. Some players who will be interesting because of the strong preseasons they've had include Elbert Mack and rookie Andre Hal. Hal has thus far outperformed his status as a seventh-round draft pick.

3. Practice squad candidates: Late in the game, there will be players who are either trying to make the roster or the practice squad. Teams now have two extra practice squad spots and changing eligibility to consider. It's a place where a player who isn't quite ready but who does have potential can get his start. O'Brien rattled off a list of players who started on the practice squad, including New England guard Dan Connolly and Houston running back Arian Foster. "That’s a very big part of our team," O'Brien said. "Meaning that anyone that you put on the practice squad is there because you think eventually they may have a chance to help you and they’re not just there just to fill up so-called meat. They’re there because at the end of the day you think they may help you. I can give you a million examples. ... These are guys that you know will have a chance to eventually be good football players for you."
