Texans’ Demps to miss some time with broken left forearm

Coach Gary Kubiak began his weekly news conference today detailing the injuries suffered in Sunday’s 38-14 victory over Tennessee that elevated the Texans’ record to 4-0 going into their next game against the New York Jets.

Backup safety Quintin Demps, who has made some big plays off the bench, is out for an undermined time because of a broken left forearm that required surgery today. Last week, Demps underwent surgery to repair a broken thumb and played with a cast on his right hand.

“It’s not a season-ending injury, but he’s going to miss some time,” Kubiak said.

Shiloh Keo, the fourth safety, suffered a shoulder injury against the Titans, but Kubiak said he would be OK for the Jets’ game. They still need a fourth safety. They could sign Eddie Pleasant off the practice squad or sign a veteran free agent.

Guard Antoine Caldwell left the Tennessee game after aggravating his ankle injury. He has a sprained ankle. Kubiak said he would be day-to-day for the Jets game. He was replaced by rookie Ben Jones.

“Ben played like a rookie,” Kubiak said. “He did some good things, and he did some things that weren’t so good. You’re going to have growing pains with players like that. He played 40-plus plays at a position he’s never played. He was a center in college (Georgia).”

Kubiak gave his players off on Tuesday and Wednesday because of the Monday game. He wants to find out why the Texans aren’t running the ball with the authority of last season.

“Having the extra day is good,” he said. “The first thing I’m going to do is to look at myself. When I call the plays, am I giving us the best (chance to be successful).”

Kubiak was unhappy with the running game against the Titans. The Texans rushed for only 95 yards and averaged 3.1 a carry after averaging 150 yards in the first three victories. They couldn’t convert on third-and-1 and third-and-2.

Arian Foster carried 24 times for 86 yards and a touchdown. He’s on a pace for 412 carries, 1,520 yards and 20 touchdowns.

“He can handle it,” Kubiak said. “I’m not worried about Arian.”

Kubiak said tight end Owen Daniels was the offensive player of the game. Free safety Glover Quin was the defensive player, and outside linebacker Bryan Braman was the special teams player of the game.

Depending on Keo's shoulder, seems like this would be the perfect time to resign Troy Nolan since the Dolphins waived him, especially if you have to place Demps on IR.

Ayo, lock this thread up, the Texans can't have a season thread apparently. In fact no more talking about the Texans on this board.
/sarcasm

Kubiak might not be worried about Foster's carries, but I sure as hell am. You have Ben Tate and I feel like he hardly gets any touches.
What's the point of having two good backs, when you only really use one and overwork him? Use both and keep them fresh throughout the season.
Plus I don't think Kubiak completely trusts Ben Tate to hold on to the football, it's going to take a few more weeks for him to get over that fumble he had against Denver.

I do agree though about using them both. Tate definitely doesn't get the touches like he should.

yes arian might be able to handle it this year, but year 3 4 and 5 of his contract will be different. ideally arian would get 20 carries and tate steals about 10. just basic math, but that takes 160 carries away from arian. keep him healthy.

I think Kubs got mad with that Tate fumble, that really let them back into the game.

I hope we get up early on the Jets and he lets Tate run wild.

^Same here. Need to get that run game going early, then have probably the greatest feast on their secondary ever.

And in news that no one aka everyone saw coming...

Texans waive quarterback John Beck

The Texans have waived quarterback John Beck to make room for safety Troy Nolan.

Nolan replaces Quintin Demps, who underwent surgery Monday to repair a broken left forearm. His injury isn’t serious enough to be placed on injured reserve.

Texans take biggest stage eager to excel in prime time

“It’s a chance to show we’re for real,” inside linebacker Brian Cushing said. “The chance to play on Monday night is always a special opportunity.

“I think a lot of America’s been watching to see if we’re legit or not, but we feel that we’ll prove it.”

Strange things can happen in prime time and have for the Texans (4-0), who have struggled with that spotlight, especially on the road. But they don’t believe in the concept of a trap game against the New York Jets (2-2). They are ready to handle what comes.

“The only trap I’ve ever been in is when you play bad, you get beat,” Texans coach Gary Kubiak said. “If that’s a trap, then every week is a trap. Like I said, our talk with our team is if we play good, we’ve got a chance to win.”

Monday night’s game seems about as lopsided as is possible in the NFL. The Jets lost their top cornerback, Darrelle Revis, one of the best in the NFL, to a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Holding out hope for his return, the Jets placed him on injured reserve, but they did not do so with top receiver Santonio Holmes, who suffered a season-ending foot injury last week.

Additionally, tight end Dustin Keller and rookie receiver Stephen Hill are unlikely to play; they were listed as doubtful on the injury report. The Jets picked up receiver Jason Hill, who was a free agent, to help their numbers at the position.

Jets in turmoil
Last weekend, the Jets lost 34-0 to the San Francisco 49ers, heightening the tension surrounding the franchise.

Despite all that, Texans left tackle Duane Brown also dismissed the idea of a trap game.

“They’re hearing about everything that’s going on,” Brown said. “I’m sure they’re looking to make a statement. We’re preparing as we do for every game. We’re not looking at it any other way.”

It would behoove the Texans not to, despite their being eight-point favorites.

The franchise had one prime-time game in 2011 (a 19-16 loss at Indianapolis) after going 0-3 in prime time in 2010, when they were thought to be a rising team but went 6-10.

They have lost their last five night games and are 0-5 all-time in prime-time road games.

“I don’t think you can think about it too much,” Brown said. “You have to approach every week as a regular work week. You can’t think, ‘Oh, it’s a Monday night game,’ and let your jitters get to you. You’ve got to be ready to perform.

“Personally, I like the challenge of knowing that the whole nation is talking to you. I like knowing that you’re the only game on TV.”

The routine changes for teams preparing for Monday night games, but the Texans made an effort to keep it as regular as possible in the week leading up to the game.
On the day of the

game, players have more time between waking up and playing, but coaches make sure they stay occupied.

“You play a lot of football,” Kubiak said. “Four preseason, 16 regular-season games — that’s a lot of ball. And you have a lot of young players that get to Week 10, and they’ve already played a college season, and they’re halfway.

Stay on even keel
“I think that’s always a challenge in pro football, and that’s why you’re always looking for professional-type guys. Guys that handle their business are kind of the same all the time, not real up or down.”

Guys such as center Chris Myers, whose anticipation for the game against New York has nothing to do with when it is or where it is and everything to do with what it will feel like.

“It may be about 50 degrees out,” Myers said. “That’s the only thing I’m paying attention to. I enjoy a cool game.”

Was at the game....

Athomspehre was great :pimp: thought it would be hostile but Jets fans were classy :pimp: :pimp: had fun

Houston left too many TDs on the field, any other team and we lose tonight, cant take the foot off the gas.

Had we scored on that Into before the end of the half it wouldve been over, i had no idea what the DB was doing slowing down.

My stomach hurts, hopefully we sign Farrior or Rudd or move Reed inside and have Mercilus play if he's ready, and that's a big if since he struggled in coverage in the preseason.

Next Man Up.

Damn man, losing Cush is going to hurt :\

We played average last night, the team better pick it up for Green Bay or they'll have a 1 in that loss column.

Sole searchin? You alive? I feel like I haven't seen you in ages

Yeah, not so much on NT as much anymore, Texanstalk and clutchfans more so, but man, this hurts. Been enjoying life with Football back, bittersweet week. Was at the UT vs. WVU game in Austin and this Monday game was all good, but that injury hurts more then people think. Watt is playing lights out, but make no doubt, Cushing was the leader and made this team go on Defense.

BTW Holliday has got to go, sooner than later preferably.

I'll be posting more on NT though.

^I'm iffy on Holliday, cause I feel like it's more of the blocking than anything else. But our special teams when we're kicking off...:smh: Both times we've had returns against us, there would be about 6-7 guys too close together getting blocked, or getting cut down, and it makes it terribly easy for the returner to beat the other guys on the field. We have to get that straight before it becomes a trend. I do appreciate Posey's hustle to try to get to McKnight though. It really shows how much speed he does have.

I've heard people mention Darryl Sharpton stepping in, but even if he is healthy to bring up, he's not Cushing, and he hasn't played in nearly a full season. He would be a liability out there. I've heard James Farrior mentioned too. Ummm....isn't he 38 and retired?
