How Green Are You? (Environmental)

I eat all organic food.

I also drink Fiji and other brands of bottled water.

Fly a lot.

Waste a lot of stuff.

Drive a Range Rover.

Nah.

I'd like to be more green though, but I'm too selfish.

i try to reduce my carbon footprint

everyone should read Architectural Design and Ethics by Thomas Fisher...that book has really opened my eyes to the damage that our lifestyle has doneto the planet. I'm not a pessimist but we are all S.O.L. if we don't start changing our lifestyles like yesterday

So you'd turn down the 2009 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid? Hmm, okay.

As for me--I'm working on being more green.

To be honest the Cadillac hybrid is still a gas guzzler, so you might as well buy any car you prefer. No offense, but it seems like a lot of people are moreinto the phase of this green concept rather than actually being educated about it. Alot of companies just seem to be using the whole "hybrid" tag tomarket their cars. The Escalade Hybrid gets 20/20 mpg. And it flashes big bold letters of "HYBRID" on the vehicle...it's a damn joke.

And it isn't just automobiles, it is sustainable development and what government enforces that seems to be the biggest deal.

I drive a pretty fuel efficient car, have been recycling as long as I can remember, my home has insulation and double paned windows and solar panels, there arelow flow toilets, I have quick showers, I personally prefere wearing warmer clotehs around the house instead of turnin gup the heat, I do not run the airconditioning very much (on the last points, I credit geography and know that it is very uncomfortable, if not dangerous for peopel in more extreme climates tonot use tehir central heating and cooling) I pay extra to get organic and sustainably grown and raised foods, I shop farmers markets and get locally grown andseasonal crops and we keep a pretty extensive garden ourselves.

I dislike the term "green" as it reduces sustainibility into a fad, which can be forgot about just as soon as it became popular. It also makescertain actions, which are visible or trendy into things taht peopel do for the sake of keeping up apperances but then those same people neglect the lessglamorous or trendy things, like picking up your own trash at natural parks and beaches or even just in your own neighborhood. I see way too much litterdespite living i na County that considers itself to be very progrsesive and "green." Sustainibility should not be about one upsmanship or style, itshould be a mindset and way of living. There is much more I could do but I do consider myself a a sort of "rational-environmentalist" and maketradeoffs that minimize discomfort and cost but maximize my ability to reduce my carbon footprint and to simply keep the area around myself clean.
