To stop prisoners from doing the job themselves at any time before; they are notified merely hours before. In America, there’s a set date and time. So you can imagine every day stress of the guard walking down the prison hall, possibly knowing it’s your day.

Their family is notified after the execution has taken place. They are allowed to visitation throughout their imprisonment, but it is not common frequency as their family feels shame that a relative is in that situation.

On the day of, the prisoners taken to a room, and in another room, there are three guards where they each have a button next to them. At random, one of the buttons will release the flooring to the prisoner. It relieves the “guilt” the executioner whichever of the three guards could possibly receive.
