...For the 8th time. His longest hit streak of his career (27) entering today.

One of only 4 players to have to have 8 different 20 game hit streaks (Pete Rose, Ty Cobb, Willie Keeler).

If anyone were to break 56 straight games, please let it be Ichiro....I'll be watching...

Edit: Ichiro currently has 7 consecutive multi-hit games. Hornsby has the record at 13 games.

Edit: LONGEST STRETCH WITHOUT CONSECUTIVE HITLESS GAMES

142: David Eckstein, STL NL, 8/22/2005-8/5/2006.
133: Ron LeFlore, DET AL, 6/16/1978-5/22/1979.
129: Al Oliver, TEX AL, 8/15/1980-9/7/1981.
128: Glenn Beckert, CHI NL, 4/7/1971-9/1/1971.
128: Ichiro Suzuki, SEA AL, 8/16/2008-current

LOL brah he's LESS than halfway there...

I vote no talk of 56 until a player gets to 40. That goes for you ESPN.

Word. More an Ichiro appreciation type thread. The man is arguably the greatest hitter of all-time.

BTW. I don't think ESPN knows where Seattle is. The secret is safe for another 5-10 games.

All jokes aside, today's media put Joe D's record from unlikely to ever be broken....... to impossible.

Players now have to deal with "Hit Streak Watch" once they hit 20 games, if they get to 30 it's all out media fest. If they get to 35+ it'sS.C. specials, Tweets from Shaq and T.O. and their thoughts, and the players being asked about it 9,000 times each day. If it gets to 40 it's time to shutdown Bristol.

There is zero, litterally zero chance we see a player get to 50 in our lifetime.

I would love to see every Yankees (team & individual player) records broken. Hopefully Ichiro can do it

Makes sense...However, if anyone...It's Ichi. This guy is in his own world most of the time. Slim chance he even watches SC.

P.S. - There's ALWAYS a chance.

Bad enough I live near Seattle and listen to these pipe smokers talk about him, I thought I was safe on NT from listening to it.

Oh well.

Dang....just for fun looked up longest MLB streaks since Joe D's 56 in 1941.

44 - Pete Rose (1978)
39 - Paul Molitor (1987)
38 - Jimmy Rollins (2005-06)
35 - Luis Castillo (2002)
35 - Chase Utley (2006)
34 - Dom DiMaggio (1949)
34 - Benito Santiago (1987)

This record is insane

Oh and peep this: Joe D started another 16 game hit streak the day after 56 ended.

I remember watching Rollins and Castillo chase the record. I was kind of bummed when they ended. I think I just want to witness history, especially of thatmagnitude.

Ehhh, make it 30. Only Pete Rose has reached 40+ after Joe D.

Who's arguing in favor of this?
