Trying to say where Kobe would be on the all-time list if he retired right now is just as difficult as trying to say where Barry Sanders ranks in football.

Kobe is one of the best players ever. When it's all said and done, he's gonna have 5+ rings and he's skilled enough to be a dominant player in hismid-to-late-30s. He may end up as one of the top 3 ever.

Where do you have Jordan and Jesus and Gretzky ranked?

Because I would rank Kobe way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, up at the very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very highest point of human immortality.

Well i never seen Bill Russell, Wilt, Kareem, Oscar and West play.
I seen Magic and Bird play but they were past there prime.

What i don't understand is how can you put these guys in your top 10 if you never seen them play?
Is it based on how many championship they won or how dominate they were?
If that's the case then you gotta put Kobe in the top 10

Here's my list
Jordan
Kobe
Duncan
Hakeem
Shaq

These guys won a total of 20 championships combined!!!

top 10 easily... lol @ dude up there saying bob cousy and jerry west over kobe... if u pit jerry west in his prime against kobe in his prime who u think wouldwin?

the game wasn't as developed as it is today, plus dudes are a lot more athletic and physical than basketball was in the 1950's.

Exactly! Excellent point.

Except I usually take that point a step further. people always want to give props to MLK, Jr and Jesus H. Christ and Teddy Roosevelt, and I'm always likeWait, did you ever see them dudes? Break bread w/ 'em, hang out a little bit?'

Like you're saying, if a person doesn't have a personal, working memory to fall back on in forming am opinion of someone, then the records kept on thatperson are worthless, without worth, worth nothing, and irrelevant.

Well said.

The game has changed too...put that into consideration. You can't generalize any aspect of the NBA because it changes year by year, whether its the Rulesor the physical aspect...its alway evolving...I mean we have 6'8-6'11 players handling the rock like PG's and 7 footers popping 3's like itsnothing

Lebron and Kobe would have MURKED the entire league in the 70's.....

Kobe is definitely top 10 all time if you break down the evolution of the game....

you guys really think kobe would be heads and shoulders above everyone if he played in the 80's/early to mid 90's?

I don't. I never understood how people even put kobe in the same sentence as michael jordan after that blowout loss to the celtics in the finals. jordanwould never ever allow that in a million years.

and yeah this era is kind of whack. teams used to be STACKED and play defense much harder.

whatever it's the same as kids saying lil wayne> biggie. i'm gonna be pissed when i start seeing "dwight howard is a top 5 center of alltime" threads

Do see how competetive Kobe is on the court?... I dont even like the man that much...But Kobe puts in WORK...ill give him that

I don't see where anyone said he would be heads and shoulders above players in the 80s or 90s...but I don't think it's a stretch by any means tosay that his game would have translated well in any era. He's just that type of player...he can score from literally anywhere on the court and is a strongguard for his size. We've seen him over the years adapt his body to either bulk up or get more sleek and quicker like he is now. He's for the most partalways played great defense so that would translate to any era as well.

The game may be different cause of the way the game is called, but some of you are reaching with all the "stacked" teams of the 90s talk. Bulls,Pacers, Knicks, Rockets, Sonics, Blazers are really the only teams I can remember with multiple All-Stars or Hall of famers on them. That isn't that muchdifferent from the Lakers, Celtics, Magic, Cavs, Mavs, etc. now. Is the quality of play as good, that's for each person to decide, but this era has had inmy opinion 3 of the top ten players to ever play the game, so it's not all doom and gloom.

ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Kobe is obviously top5............obviously with no argument....and dependin on how many more titles he wins he can be number 1...

Between this and your Cincy nonsense, I think wehave a leading candidate for worst poster of the decade on S&T

i don't understand how people can even have a top 3 or a top 5 list.

like how do you guys rank best? how can you say kobe is "better" than shaq or kareem? The jordan arguments i don't want to even hear

This theory makes no damn sense. Put Jr Smith or anybody who can dunk with average handles and they would dominate back then. See what I did?

Yeah I totally agree on that but since that is the case, anyone under the age of lets say 30 or so shouldn't be able to list whose on thegreatest all time
