If You Are Looking for/Interested In Working With The Federal Government...Come In. Positions Availa

Yup, my last company I was at, started out the back of his garage with like 3-4 friends of his. They received awards for INC's 100/500 fastest growing private companies ( I think that is what the plaques had). Multiple years. Fast forward 10 years and he had a company with over 350+ people and sold it to ManTech for $85 mil cash :smokin

Edit: He was smart with it too. Started a real estate company and bought the building that the company was based in a "SCIF" the space off and started talks with GMU about being a remote site in another part as well. Signed like a 10 year contract for the space before he sold it to ManTech and they stuck to it. He still makes like $30k/month or something just off of the rent of the space

His kids worked there too and when they went to college, he wrote it off as he was paying for an employee to go to college  :smokin

Very nice. Good ol' Mantech. Ha. People will pay big dollars for the entrepreneurial mind.

i wish there was something in the Li Ny area but this thread is a gem good looks on the opportunity

No worries. I'll keep it updated as best as I can. I am a one man shop and am spread pretty thin, that's why if NT or those who care help me lighten my load and lend a hand in helping me and my charitable ventures/causes...I'll have more time to look at resumes, provide advice, speak to people, meet people for discussions, etc.

Man, at this point I'll move to DC/VA for a good federal gig. My thing is the experience. That's a hump I have trouble getting over

They have internships and junior positions all over the DC/MD/VA area. No shortage of those.

GOOD THREAD

Thank you. If you ever want to show any appreciation....all I ask is that you check out the thread about my late brother and like/share/support the two facebook pages for my charitable causes and their accompanied YouTube Videos.

I was able to land one local friend/former NTer (not sure if he still goes on here) a position on a DLA/DISA Contract making $70K a year. His resume was solid, there was an opening, and I "interviewed" him myself.

This is not smoke and mirrors. I am genuinely trying to help others and pay it forward....regardless of any banter/debates over my 13 year tenure with anyone back in the Music/Sports/General/JB Forums. Thanks. :smokin

Damn nothing in my area.

What is your area? PM me or hit me on email. I/We have a lot more positions that I didn't post yet. We win work on a weekly basis, new proposals (that I write/help submit/bid on), and other openings open up.

Fear not.

USAJOBS is good you just have to know what you are doing. The system rejects alot before a human even sees them. Blanks and incomplete info are automatic rejected. The system automatically matches words from your profile with KSA's. If you dont have those matches you will get rejected.

The following PDF should help with filling out the applications.

I work in government as well but I never really went through the process. I had a connect coming out the military. I am now starting over and having to teach myself this stuff all over again.

Exactly. Most applications to vacancies never make it to HR because they are incomplete, missing documentaion (transcripts, SF-50s, resumes, etc.). You must go above and beyond if it is something you truly want. Contact the HR Specialist or POC on the Vacancy Announcement to ensure and confirm receipt. Separate yourself from others so you are not just a name on a piece of paper.

Follow through with what you start and don't wait until the last minute. You are competing for one or two positions against thousands....so getting an interview or an email/call from someone is a great step!

With that said, make sure you fill out everything and all the right boxes are checked. If they ask for something send it. You can't half mass the apps, they need to be filled out to the T. Some of my coworkers full time job was filling out apps and creating resumes before they got on. Resumes are not one size fit all either, you may have to change your resume for each position cause they tend to have different stuff and you will need to make sure your stuff matches.

This is exactly the type of position my Cisco Security NET is for. If only I was a bit older. Good looks op.

No worries. I hope to really reach the target 21-30 year old audience or anyone who is just finishing college and lost/looking for what to do next.

I remember a lot of classmates in college finishing and feeling ecstatic but having no clue on what to do with their degree or how to start paying off those student loans.

I hope this serves as some sort of open forum with guidance and advisement.

I'll try to keep it current with positions and leads for a variety of fields.

Thanks in advance.

It's nice of you to keep doing this for NT. I know from experience that getting a federal job is harder than most anticipate, especially going through the application process on USAjobs.gov. I probably applied to more than 150 openings on USAjobs.gov and only a handful of times was able to have my application go to the hiring manager.

It really comes down to have some sort of connection to the agency/department you're applying to, or have Veteran status or a current security clearance.

No worries.

That is a popular notion/stigma, but not entirely true. Obviously it helps to know someone who can see your resume to the HR Manager/Specialist or put in a word to the Division Chief and get you an interview, but it is not the only way. Vets Preference does help, but there are enough jobs (depending on the location) to land one.

It can definitely be a frustrating process and often times the hard work and time put in goes unnoticed and unrewarded. It might take 100 apps to get one interview.

These intern programs are a great way to get into Federal Service. Not many jobs out of college will pay you $40,000 with three $10,000 raises in the first three years.

Once you get your foot in the door as an intern/SCEP/STEP/federal service employee or even a contractor....the sky is the limit.

If you have any questions or need a hand with something....let me know.
