Information Technology (IT)

I got a Bachelors from there and currently going through their cybersecurity masters program.

Are you going for bachelors or masters?

There are pointers on how to do online courses prior to enrolling to waive classes and save money.

Certs also waive classes as well. I managed to waive five classes for the masters (which I probably could’ve done anyway based on my experience and brute forcing).

If your goal is to get the paper and some certs then it’s definitely a good program. There are better programs out there depending on what’s important for you.

Thinking about trying WGU again

My schedule was too hectic before. Anybody here try them out before?
Just finished their Master's in cybersecurity program a few weeks ago. I earned 3 certs through the program and have vouchers for 2 more. As you know, it's self-paced, so you can accelerate or take breaks whenever, as long as you finish the assigned classes for that "semester".

Cheers and congratulations.

I just got the notification, I passed the last task of my capstone today.

Is cybersecurity what you specialize in?

I took the path due to how many classes my certs would waive and the desire to have a masters degree.

I think I'm gonna go for the Bachelors in IT. I don't want to overdo things like I did last time with the accelerated program.

How long did it take you both to finish the cybersecurity program?

This dude has a great channel with videos on WGU:

Research the courses for the degree and see if you can do study.com to meet some of them.

It took me 2.5 months to finish the masters. With my certs, I waived five course (I was hoping six but no luck. They said something about not being able to enroll with more than half of the curriculum completed).

Took me about a year and a half, but I was using the GI Bill so I was taking my time to get the housing allowance. You could honestly finish it in less than a year, maybe even one semester if you really wanted to.

Yeah I'm not enrolled but I only have about 4 classes left in the BS Network Ops and Security. Paying out of pocket though it's gotta wait. I think it's solid, chose it because it pretty much covered all the skills all employers are asking for now, ie networking, Linux, programming, security etc. If I had to do it again though I would just knock out the BSIT or BSITM and do any certs and coding on my own time.

I used the GI Bill as well…which I extended my time to the term length to get the BAH.

Debating on if I want to get a masters in something else or do the deep dive to doctorate. Not sure how much energy I have to studying as I head later into middle age.

Just goes to show how much US relies on cloud services. AWS owns 30% of market share. If it happened to Azure, it would take out the federal contract I work on lol. They went cloud first. Only orgs that still maintain a hybrid environment and disaster recovery/BC might not be affected (besides M365 and Entra).

Seems one of the big three experiences a major outage every year.

Meta laid off 600 people off their AI team.

My company also just did a lay off, mostly affecting managers, leaders, and directors.

Everyone was scared today in the office.

Meta has been quietly laying off folks for the past year or better now. My brother in law, a recruiter, was laid off as well.
