Is Phil Jackson overrated?

Like JapanAir said, he picks and chooses his points in time to coach. What happened when Shaq left (that book)
laugh.gif

He's overrated in the coaching/play drawing schema but in terms of talent evaluation he's pretty good (as evidenced by his decisions on when to coachteams)

Not great defensively, and uses Tex Winter's offense.

Also needs all-time greats to win even one playoff series...

(shrugs...)

--Yes. Phil is vastly overrated. And so is Red Auerbach. I mean Red has 9 rings in a period of time when the NBA was so lopsided it wasn't even funny.
--Phil is a good coach...but he has always had great players to work with.
--Red's teams would get torn apart in today's basketball. I'm not denying Red's greatness, dude was a great coach. Im just sayin.

sure del harris and kurt rambis were so successful with with kobe/shaq

...phil brought stability and leadership to that Laker team thats whythey won...yehh doug collins (did you know he coached michael?) was so successful with pip/jordan...they has been other coaches who have coached shaq/kobe andjordan/pippen but im pretty damn sure they wouldnt be as dominant and winning the amount of rings they won

please...

Yes heck give Jeff Van Gundy or Rudy T those Bulls and Lakers teams and they would have the same amount of championships. He is losing his touch a bit.
jeff van gundy?

...youre pulling my leg

anyways i dont think phil is overrated...i think he has lost his edge a bit...he doesnt realize the game as changed since the last time he won a championship

Tex Winters > Phil Jackson
Phil is the personality/philosophy. Tex is the basketball knowledge.

JVG is a great coach, if you think otherwise, you're a silly goose.

JVG isn't one of those ******ed coaches who says to his team during a huddle "GO PLAY HARD! YOU CAN DO IT!"

I'm so sick of coaches like this who get tons of praise for saying they're good coaches, like Stan Van or Rick Adelman or George Karl. All three arenot good coaches.

im not discrediting him as a coach but to win the same amount of rings with those bulls team and Laker team...NO!...you're a silly goose ifyou think rick adelman isnt a good coach bud

No. never lost a playoff series when winning game 1.

Almost always wins playoff series when being up a game at any point in the series.

i hope he keeps it up for this series..............

Japan, you's my dude and I agree with most of what you said, and I even like JVG over Adelman myself, but, Adelman's track record speaks for itself.Dude has been succeeding with different teams through different eras. Kinda hard to say he isn't a good coach.

Get the #%@% outta here with that mess... The guy has three ''3-peats''! He won three championships in a row, three times in his career!
pimp.gif
I do agree that other coaches could have won a title with the line upsPhil has had, but going on a 3-peat...THREE times? Hell nah...

Phil is definitely not overrated.

he just still has that flash back memory of michael jordan...

he's constantly failing since shaq because he is using Kobe and putting him in MJ's role.

BUT EVERYONE IN THE WORLD KNOWS THAT

KOBE = MJ NOT.

phil better change kobe's role, because he can't do what mj done did.

unfortunately phil's too old not to be stubborn. he ain't going to change that.

have you ever said something positive about anything non cavaliers related

A lot of great teams with great players have not won championships. 9 Rings speaks for itself. I don't care if he had Jesus on the roster.

Overrated? Fallen off? Quit coaching?

Wait... are the Lakers in the WCF? Wasn't the Lakers regular season record 65-17?

I am confused... what more does he have to do?

huh? so you would still give him credit for every championship won with literally god on his team?

good one.

He needs to win a championship.

yes sarcasm

i admit, he has fallen off a little.
everyone says "imagine he didnt have kobe & mj" etc. etc., but have you ever thought, who bought out the kobe and mj we saw today?
if it wasn't for phil, kobe and mj wouldn't be what they are today.

I said the same thing .

Dude is just a great coach period ... sure he had star players but , I believe he brought that out of them .

There has to be a reason why damn near everyone that has played with him said he's the best coach ever .

Phil is the zen master lol. He knows exactly the right buttons to press to motivate his players, he knows when to push or layoff people based on theirpersonalities, and he pick and chooses his spots . He is a psychology/motivating genius who has surrounded himself with an amazing coaching staff to add to hisstrengths and help his weaknesses. dude is just smart and knows what is going on
