Is this life?

What alternatives do you suggest?

Nearly everyone goes to school for the first part of their life, once you're on your own you need to work in order to support yourself and not starve. Then you find someone to marry and start a family with, and now you have to support even more people. Then you retire and die.

While you may not like how people seem to go through the motions of life and don't take advantage, the basic set up of life is hard to avoid.

as much as it sucks, this is very true

That's why you gotta do something different than just the basic stuff such as school, work etc. Find a hobby, do the thing you like to do, find a good friend, a hot girl, a sex buddy etc. Life is what you make of it.

You gotta do it your way. The trick is to become smart and confident with yourself and with life so that you're comfortable with saying "#%$% the system, I don't need you to tell me how life should go. I'm gonna do it my way."
To me, life is about people and humanity. It's about love. It's about being so good at whatever you do that you can do stuff for the people you love. It's a point where you don't have to be the center of your own universe because you've got yourself taken care of. It's about knowing yourself, knowing how to get what you want, and knowing what you truly want.

The things you list (school, work, family, retire) should not be things you aspire to. Instead, you should aspire to what you want in life. And with time you will find that you end up aspiring for the things you listed. No matter how independent you try to be, eventually you're going to reach a point where you realize things mean nothing if they are kept to yourself. You will want someone to share your experiences with... leading to marriage. You'll want someone to pass your empire to, your knowledge to, etc.... someone who can continue what you started.... leading to children. Maybe you'll start off thinking you can do everything on your own, but then you'll realize others have been through it and have passed on their knowledge in books... leading you to go to school, or at least to an interest in reading and learning. You'll want something useful to come out of your life... so you'll find a career and work. And eventually you'll want to break completely free of the bounds placed on you by a job, so you'll retire.

I know that feeling, where everything in life seems useless because it's the same as what everyone else is doing. What's the point? Why are we stepping?

When you can answer that you'll be o.k.

once you have kids you will learn what you have worked so hard for........and if you want to break it down to those basic things, then yes that is life.....but its also all the time in between AND what you make of it. You can grab life by the balls (ayo.....pause!!!) and change everything before you know it......

Acquire a mass of money, enough

to last you a lifetime, and have as much sexual intercourse as you possibly can. THIS is life.

Well said.

Here's what I got from life so far.

We look forward to high school graduation.
Then we look forward to graduating college.
After that we look forward to retirement

But in between that we get married/kids. The point I am getting to is that we will never be free because we have to constantly work everyday, no freedom.

Yes, this is essentially what life is.....and is the life I work daily to diverge from. I don't want a wife, kids, dog and white picket fence. I wanna live a life full of adventure, travel, caring for and interacting with strangers and living as simple a life as possible.

nope that's the life everybody is conditioned to want, a life society is telling you that you should live. you have the right to make life whatever you want though.

I have parents that are accustomed to the work life...they make life seem like a robotic thing to do.
Go to school...find a good job.  Alot of people think being rich or being successful=life...but theres a wayy deeper meaning to it.

Cliche and corny, but i see and believe way too many people live life inside the box, and not out of it.
