A hop step is technically a travel. A jump step is not. However, traveling is so rarely called unless it's very obvious or you're an NBA scrub.
There are plenty of "travels" in every NBA game. They're just not called because it would ruin the flow of the game and wouldn't be as fun towatch for the fans. It's all about marketing for the NBA or any sport.
Just look at Lebron James and the total lack of charging calls on him even though he's developed a very bad habit of it.
