Jobless and Frustrated NTers check in VOL. WE NOT-WORKIN!!!

Any of yall leave your careers to take care of a family member for a while then went back?

Picked up winter job. Doing snow removal at msp for a contractor. Idk if it’s gonna suck or be good but it’s voluntary on call, double time/triple time available and pays into my health and pension so whatever.

They do SeaTac too and some other airports.

Got laid off from NASA almost a year ago now.. Walked away with a pretty nice severance and 2 months pay. (Felt like **** the first few weeks. Went from shocked, depressed, despair .. to feeling better as I applied to companies and started taking interviews.)

Got an offer from Amazon to work for their Kuiper program to compete with SpaceX starlink. (I ultimately turned it down as it requires full relocation to Washington State.)

I now work for an up and coming tech defense company (almost a year now). Getting laid off was a blessing in disguise. Moved to a new city closer to family, getting paid a lot more. I don't feel the imposter syndrome I felt working at NASA.

Were you at the Cape👀 If so I think our careers might have crossed at a point.

As if the private equity people at the top couldn't get any worse, they delayed paying out my company shares and will now reduct attorney fees from the payout.
They said the process had to be completed before Jan 1st or they'd have to charge me attorney fees but they only decided to contact me on December 18th (I got fired Nov 29th, effective immediately) and I can't reach any of the people charge because they're on holiday.

My former boss and HR manager even apologized to me on the phone for the buffoonery of the private equity folks.
For reference, I got fired by email by the private equity company that bought my former employer around March 2023.
I don't take it personally because there's probably a reason private equity has such a bad reputation but instead of doing it themselves, they instructed the HR manager to fire me by email as part of "restructuring". She privately told me she was mad about that and felt she had to apologize for it, despite it obviously not being her fault.

To be fair, initially they were extremely accomodating. They gave me a special exemption to buy company shares because they stated they were so satisfied with my work that they were willing to set aside the tenure requirement that I didn't meet.
In the last few months leading up my firing, even my boss (development manager) privately started complaning about how the private equity folks were starting to "interfere" more and that they were a bunch of dumbasses who didn't know anything about HR software.

i've actually been doing that for like 8 months now, getting paid like $18.50/hr to help my mom

i ended going back to my old job in october too so im doing both now. one of my peers ended up becoming the director. it helps to leave on a good note cause you never know when you may cross paths again.

I don't know how to properly vent about this.

Eight and a half months since being let go. I take accountability for letting my bit of ego and emotions dictate my outcome and how I did at work. With that said, **** my previous manager for not giving me another chance and losing trust in me. Here I am, dealing with rejection after rejection after rejection and applying to hundreds of jobs, reaching to final stages of interviews just to be turned down that seems to be simply due to experience.

I'm thankful I've saved up so much to still be okay and manage financially, but this **** can't keep going.

I need a new job, this job I’m in, is a TOTAL JOKE….

Another problem with my job is….

There’s this old *** Jamaican lady there that is horny, she is overly friendly & always trying to talk too much… like why do Jamaicans talk so much? :ohwell:

She’s is always trying to make small talk & use salacious nicknames to address people… it’s really uncomfortable. It feels like sexual harassment or pedophilia… like molestation.

How can I get this to stop? Should I contact HR & tell them she is getting to close for comfort. It’s gross & wierd because she is way too old to be carrying on like this. :rolleyes

Like, I feel like if this were the other way around & a Male were doing what she does.. it wouldn’t be tolerated or accepted & WOULD be reported.

I think they think that they are still in Jamaica.

If it's salacious and is making you uncomfortable, then it might be worthy to bring it up to HR and you can ask for anonymity. Definitely a boundary thing IMO.

Congrats pa, fingers crossed everything pans out for you. Always remain positive and optimistic
