Jordan IX White/Black/True Red - August 29, 2026

You gotta admit this scene was pretty epic

No one said it wasn’t.
These shoes were intended to be MJ’s game shoes for the ‘94 Bulls season, zero to do with a movie. They apparently also were the current AJ when certain scenes were shot.
Why not call them the Statue IXs, since they’re the shoes used on the MJ statue at the UC?
Why not call the 3M-tongue fire-red Vs the Cokes or Treehouses? I mean, you gotta admit, this commercial is pretty epic, too. In fact, it had a big impact on me back then because it aired BEFORE those Vs dropped and we all got a clear look at what the new Air Jordan looked like.

The only minor issue I have with the SJ nonsense is it implies some purposeful connection that is absolutely fabricated. The shoe wasn’t designed whatsoever with the movie in mind. Zero connection. Thus special boxes etc commemorating such feel absurd to me.
I guess what I’m really getting at is the fact numerous OG Js could have Space Jam-like nicknames if merely appearing in a show or movie or commercial or anywhere other than on a basketball court is what earns a nickname and supposed commemorative releases decades later.

Ima probably wrong BUT............
ESPN DOC - JORDAN RIDES THE BUS

I thought the first time these were seen on foot was when He was working out for the Barons INSIDE THE GYM ??

its about a 20ish second snippet, fielding grounders in full uniform with em on

who next ?!?!?!

They were seen publicly late in 1993 on store shelves , and in a Nike commercial with Barkley. There are pics of Mike wearing them in practice during the 93 Finals.
Did these really debut in space jam or were they seen prior???

Good lord. I don’t expect everyone to know the history of all of these shoes. But this is how a lot of misinformation and revised history comes to be viewed as fact. And it’s why the way JB markets these things now irritates me LOL. Because it fuels this revisionist history nonsense in the name of trying to sell more shoes now.
The damn nines were for a season three years before the movie Space Jam ever came out. Hence, why I said there is literally no connection between the shoes in that movie other than the fact that the shoes happen to appear in the movie.
As said, they were seen on his feet long before he went to baseball let alone when the movie came out. And as said, there were at least two commercials for them during the 93/94 season. Space Jam came out during the 96/97 season.
In the end, it has no impact on whether I buy the shoes again or not. It’s just a problem in today’s culture the way facts get twisted. Which is why I said they may as well market the damn Air Jordan II as a Space Jam shoe. Or the Vs as a Coke commercial shoe 🤣

it's just easier for people to associate and identify it. that's why most people call them space jams, because they probably first saw it in the movie.

if mj played in '94 in these we'd probably refer these as the playoffs instead.

Funny thing is, Chicago 2s are also in the movie, why arent those the space jam 2s? *waits for “that guy” to start thread “SPACE JAM 2s confirmed summer fall 2027”
I've never even seen Space Jam.
I’ve only seen it once, and it was like 4-5 years ago.

People who refer to these 9s as Space Jams are the same lames who refer to any black/red Jordan as the “Breds”
I wouldn’t say the folks that say “bred”, I would say it’s the same folks that call white/red colorways “candy cane” or “cherry”.

NikeTalk Movie Night would be a nice concept. It would give me a reason to use my Masters of the Universe popcorn box. It’s one of my favorite movies of all time and has made a lasting impact on my childhood. I posted this in the Jordan 11 thread but I met Billy West, the voice of Bugs Bunny at a Comic Convention we had in our state in January and he signed this still from the movie for me.

A lot of people where? Certainly not on this site. Maybe some new Gen Z social media thing?
Regardless. My point wasn’t really to complain about some new generation referring to them as such. Or to dog any one person who does.
The point is, the IX is ONLY associated with the movie because it briefly appears. It’s a very slight association; the II makes a more prominent appearance so why not refer to the Chi II as the Space Jam II? Yet no one does.
It’s nonsense—and selective nonsense at that.
But hey, no one is going to change it. But I’ll also keep rolling my eyes at it. 😂

Dude, you need some joy in your life.

I remember this colorway mostly from Pac wearing them, the Charles Barkley commercial, and the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air wedding episode where Will and Jazz are wearing them.

This site is becoming a bunch of grumpy old men. Some of you need to remember why you got into sneakers in the first place and if it doesn't bring you joy or happiness, you need to find some new hobbies.

How dare people use the term candy cane and bred

I got into shoes because I marvelled at what MJ did on the basketball court while wearing those shoes. I also loved the tech and designs of the shoes. They just looked cool.

But you got into shoes for the nicknames? That’s so cute.

I don't care what other adults call "their" kicks. Just like I wouldn't care what you choose to call your dog. That's what adults do. Worry about themselves and not material items. I have my own life, career and family.

but keep being the angry old man yelling at the clouds like anyone cares.

It’s indeed a sad state of affairs and a common NT response to factual observations that making such observations and comments somehow equals being an angry old man, suffering from a lack of joy, etc etc

No idea how someone makes that jump, doubly so when I blatantly said it’s minor and certainly won’t stop me from buying (and thus enjoying) the shoes. I apologize that as a lifelong Nike/Jordan enthusiast, I ever dare criticize the company or recognize the historically inaccurate marketing nonsense it lazily resorts to at times. How terribly bitter of me
Also, indeed completely ignore the fact a few members in this thread asked about the history of the IX and its actual tie to the movie.

Magic33 Magic33 seems like he'd be an absolute joy at a party.
