It’s getting bad out here in these streets. I’m seeing dudes sitting in the car while their girl is pumping the gas as they are just chilling in the car. Worse than that I’m seeing dudes comfortably sitting in the passenger seat while being driven by a female. Unacceptable.

It’s weird when you come across a girl who won’t let you do it.

What kind of girl/female won’t let you do it? That’s an automatic red flag right there if ever I saw or heard of one for any female you are dating.

I've always asked the purpose of this & have never gotten a clear answer  , it's just one of those things that's just stuck around out of tradition.

There’s different reasons that have been stated earlier by DCAllAfrican DCAllAfrican . Also another reason could be if your lady looks good or is dressed sexy you wouldn’t want her to be stared at or have side comments made to her by cars driving pass you two if she is closest to the inside of the street/road. Basically to have less eyes looking at her.

I only hold doors for women I'm related to, dating, or who are black.

My freshman year in college I held the door at a Chick-fila for a white woman and she didn't say thank you. I was pissed off for the rest of the day.
Lol @ Letting a random person ruin your day

I hold doors for everyone. It’s just kind of become second nature to me. I don’t really trip if someone doesn’t hold it for me but I always make sure to express my gratitude when someone does.

Help me understand the, "Men don't get driven around by women" mentality?

I legit don't understand it.

Explain in detail without using insults.

I’m going to push back on this deuce. This situation is highly circumstantial. I don’t think it’s as easy as just looking in a vehicle, seeing the man isn’t driving/pumping gas and assume he’s not a gentleman or that he’s a BAN.

This woman is using her kids for gas money

What’s this one? Does it also apply to flying with your girl?

Some of these “rules” are a little too nuanced for me, personally. If I’ve been on multiple dates with you, you know what time it is and I’ll be damned if I’m going to be condemned for the side of the street that I walk on or sitting in the passenger seat, checking emails while a woman who is driving pumps the gas for her vehicle.
Train has to do moreso with the abundance of perverts that rub up and grope on women

How do you have strong independent women’s empowerment and expect for every man to pump and pay for your gas?

I seriously don’t understand it. I thought the point was to get rid of the rigid gender roles, not just the ones that suit you.
I can see how some dudes in here look down upon it but I also understand that they want to keep traditional gender roles.

So I would wonder what she expects her sons to do for women that have driven around all week but encountered her sons when her tank was on E. They should just fill her tank up just cause? I am not sure I agree with that approach being some thing that "GENTLEMEN" do.

RE: Train, I personally always sit on the outside seat for protection purposes.

RE: Driving. deuce king deuce king Thanks for the explanation but we can agree to disagree on that one. I don't think it is that black and white and as storm2006 storm2006 mentioned, situations can be circumstantial.

As a side note.... i have noticed that a lot of the "financial" cats on Twitter often have the same approach when trying to get attention from women  . It's ALWAYS in regards to what men need to be doing & what women should & shouldn't accept.

Dudes get some money in their pocket & be turning into real life Kevin Samuels , And a lot of it comes off to me like "I have money!! what do you mean you still don't like me"

Hell even outside the relation with women, so many people in that particular section of social media feel the need to criticize every single way a person lives their life.

Some of these gender roles things are quite confusing. Growing up in NYC, many of us never needed cars. Usually the people who had cars first, were women. When travelling out to boro's like Queens, of which are two fare zones, and those close to the airports JFK and LaGuardia, outside of the LIRR mass transit does not go out that far. So if you met a woman that lives out there, and she offered to pick you up at a train station, she was going to be the one with the car, in order to pick you up.

She owns her own ride, and then takes care of her own ride.

Same thing in certain areas of Brooklyn. You meet a women of her own means, and she picks you up, drives you where you need to get to go.

Problem? I simply do not understand.

Why would this make someone less of a man?

I've never wanted to own a car in NYC.

I simply do not understand these stereotypical rules that I am reading on here, and how they are defined through gender.

Same here, especially seniors. I only hold doors open for Black people, and those willing to make eye contact without fear. Pre covid in the subway, I only gave my seat to Black seniors and pregnant Black women, Black children.

Aren't there states or atleast parts of states (New Jersey & Oregon) that still use a gas station attendant to pump your gas? Does the man have to stick around until after the attendant pumps gas before he can go run into the gas station?
Man I hate it gettin gas in Jersey b/c something annoys me about getting catered. Me & the gas attendant just be standing their lookin odd as I pump my own gas. "Thank you, but I got it. You don't have to stand there I'll do it myself."

My girl drives 9 times out of 10 when we go out.

I pay 9 times out of 10 when we go out.

If that makes me dusty/broke, then I'm alright with being dusty/broke.
Hold up now.

Before we go labeling people, you still need to answer an important question.....what is your Chelsea boot collection looking like?

Damn when I have my surgery later this year I gotta make sure I tell my daughter's mom to GTF0 of the driver's seat and let my recovering carcass drive cause ion wanna look broke as dusty
My uncle broke his leg at his home a while back, and let my aunt drive him to the emergency room. I lost all respect for that man that day :smh:

Hilarious. Outside of DCAllAfrican DCAllAfrican dudes in here are either going to extremes or worse yet getting too emotional in their response to my comment about sitting in the passenger sit while a female drives. Obviously if you had “surgery and just leaving from a hospital” that’s one thing.

Other than that if you have working hands and feet....to me there’s no excuse to be comfortable in the passenger seat as a man if you consider yourself such as a female drives. If it makes you feel good or special to have a female drive you around......so be it. Get it how you live it.
