let this thread die (NYK)

Serious question..When have the Knicks ever traded for or signed a player through free agency that came to the Knicks and played significantly better? Can't even think of anyone..When the Knicks got Allan Houston from the Pistons, he struggled his first year but eventually came into his own but even his best season was barely better than his best season with the Pistons.

Everyone the Knicks get is either the same level they were before hand or just play worse with the Knicks. This isn't in reference to any of the current stars but just an observation.

Well Amare had his best year ever last year until the Melo trade came through.  Also Raymond Felton.

He's A problem but all the people on this board who are talking like he's the only problem are way, way off base.
The team is deeply flawed right now.

Would there have realistically been any chance for Melo to sign in the offseason and keep Gallo, Chandler, Felton, and Mozgov? Cause I don't think there was.

We would've lost Chandler to free agency. Also I think Melo would've went to NJ and took his money . It's funny cause dude was being so thirsty he wouldn't have lost that much money at all with the new CBA.

The coach is 90% of it. Does the fact that Melo isnt a real leader hurt too, ye. But what happens when a team plays with no heart collectivelly..they tuned the coach out. He says some crazy ++!$ in the media too theres obviously no future here let him walk. Woodson being second in line is a huge problem too cause hes worse then Dantoni AND half the staff are related to Dantoni

Its a mess from top to bottom, there isnt even a real GM.

I dont think I can ride out a sub .500 record season with a team this talented

Nah I mean none of us really know what's going on behind the scenes but if I had to rank it personally, I'd say:
1. Dolan

2. Melo

3. D'antoni

But I think we can agree that all three parts are a problem.  The team is 'talented' but chemistry matters on a squad and the pieces don't fit.  Need to do something about the PG spot desperately.

Edit:  I don't know if anyone saw Kenny Smith on TNT the other night, but he was ranting about the Knicks and how they hold the ball.  He said, (paraphrase)  "great players get the ball and they're thinking ahead so they right away pass, shoot, or drive.  a great player doesn't need to 'survey' the floor because he's already ahead of the action."

I think it's pretty clear who he was talking about right there....

Amare is even worse at that. Dude keeps trapping himself on the baseline or barreling into 3 defenders

Yeah for sure he sucks at that kind of iso.
That's because he's not playing his game though.  Holding the ball is all Melo knows how to do.

Too late now

Just them but Felton was already wearing out his welcome there for me so knowing what we all know now I would've packaged w/e picks we had, Gallo, Felton, TD, and w/e else is necessary for Deron Williams. That trade could've went down before the deadline or after the lockout ended and then we would have our Big 3.

But I try not to dwell on that

Of course that's all solely dependent on Melo saying Knicks or I walk and honestly if he didn't want the extra money I believe it works. In that hypothetical world though, Pringles is probably still our coach and for a much longer time.

No. We would have been able to keep Mozgov and one of the other three, though.

THIS! hes complaining there's no ball movement but yet he forces up shots and creates turnovers... i'm not buying he needs a point guard to be good... that's just a lame excuse to say he doesn't live up to the hype... bottom line is he cant make jump shots and last year he couldn't miss but times have changed..and lets not forget the need for him to shoot 3s...

This and only this. Dude's jumper is not falling and he has nothing else to fall back on. Steve Nash isn't here to deliver him pin point passes between 3 defenders under the basket. Even with Baron being able to run the pick and roll exceptionally well if Stoudemire's jumper is not falling he becomes one of the easiest players to defend in the whole league .
