This will basically be used just for notes and something to lug around.

With the Lenovo the one I've been looking at is only about 11" the smallest screen I've used has been 15. If anyone has used that small of a screen, how is it? Seems like it would bother you after a while.
Went down to a netbook after my laptop conked out, the smaller screen will bother you for a while but as with most anything, you'll adapt and get used to it.

I don't know anything about these CPU's, but here are the specs. I was reading about this Nvidia Ion GPU, seems pretty nice for a netbook. The ASUS I was looking at had it

Processor:AMD Fusion Processor E-240 (1.5Ghz, 512KB L2, 1.0GHz FSB) 2.0GT/s
Operating system:Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 32
Display type:11.6" HD (1366x768) AntiGlare - Midnight Black (Wireless Broadband Upgradeable )
System graphics:AMD Radeon HD 6310 Graphics, AMD Fusion Processor E-240 (1.5Ghz, 512KB L2, 1.0GHz FSB) 2.0GT/s
Total memory:2 GB PC3-10600 DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz SODIMM Memory (1 DIMM)
Hard drive:320 GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
Battery:6 cell Li-Ion Battery 57 Whr

I'll be adding extra RAM, but that seems okay for 399. I'm really just tryign to stay under 500

For 400? Nah thats a little too much IMO, for $500 I bought an ASUS laptop 13" and only 3.5lbs with an 8 cell battery.

check on slickdeals.net and see if any deals are posted (I see laptops posted every few days or so)

i was hoping to use my tmobile blackberry and teather the phone as a modem to the netbook.
anyone successfully done this?

Asus UL30V is the model, prob not on sale anymore but its def great for work.

Just not crazy about netooks cause you could spend a few extra bucks and get something more useful and durable, 13.3" is the perfect size. Just find something light.....3-4 pounds is great.

That's what I did with my old laptop when I stayed at a hotel that didn't have free internet.
Android's wifi tether. It's not something I would want to use all the time though
