man i was ecstatic when I got a "regretfully decline" card back in the mail when I (well I didnt do jack, wife did it all) was planning our wedding.  If an invited guest couldnt make it, they usually still sent a gift (money), AND it would just be an extra $120 in my pocket for 1 less person I have to serve at the reception.  $240 if it was a couple that couldnt make it.  Double win.
