McDonald's Worker Arrested After Telling Company President She Can't Afford Shoes

I can see where Ninja is coming from though, all jokes aside. I mean she could've went to college (ITT Tech at least) and become their next success story but she got comfortable. She could've even been looking for better jobs once she got a couple of years experience if she didn't want to go the college route.

She had options, even WITH kids you still have options.

A woman who has been employed by the McDonald's Corporation for over
10 years says she was arrested last week after she confronted the
company president at a meeting and told him she couldn't afford to buy
shoes or food for her children.
Nancy Salgado, 26, told The Real News
that she felt like she had to speak out during McDonald’s USA President
Jeff Stratton's speech at the Union League Club of Chicago on Friday
for the sake of her children.
"It's really hard for me to feed my two kids and struggle day to
day," she shouted as Stratton was speaking. "Do you think this is fair,
that I have to be making $8.25 when I've worked for McDonald's for ten
years?"
"I've been there for forty years," Stratton replied from the podium.

"The thing is that I need a raise. But you're not helping your employees. How is this possible?" Salgado asked.

At that point, someone approached Salgado and informed her that she was going to be arrested.

She later recalled the encounter to The Real News' Jessica Desvarieux.

"The strength was very powerful, like, just remembering the face of
my kids, like I say, you know, just simple things like I can't provide a
pair of shoes like everybody else does, sometimes every month, or
anything like that," she said. "And he needs to know we are what all the
employees at McDonald's are going through. We're struggling day to day
to provide our needs in our houses, things for our kids. And it's
just--it gets harder and harder with just the poverty wage they have us
living in."
"They just told me, you know, well, you're being under arrest because
you just interrupted, you trespassed the property. You're just going to
go to jail," Salgado added. "And what I remember just telling them,
'well, like, so, because I have to speak out my mind and I had to tell
the president the poverty wage I'm living in, that's just against the
law?' You know, just be able to speak up your mind and say, you know
what, I can't survive with $8.25? It's just -- it's ridiculous that I'm
going to get arrested. You know."
Salgado, who is still working at McDonald's, said she had her hours cut following the arrest and feared further retaliation.

"The CEOs make millions and billions a year and why can't they provide enough for their employees?" she wondered.
you can't survive on 8.25 an hour, maybe you shouldn't have those babies. Can't blame her, it's lack of education. GET A COLLEGE DEGREE before you have babies.

she's 26 years old with 2 kids working at mcdonalds for 10 years...how can you POSSIBLY excuse someone for that kinda piss poor life decision?

10 years b...10 years.

had it been a NTer ya would've laughed him off this website.
So she's been there since she was 16. Dumb mistakes as a youth shouldn't be held against you your whole life.
at what point do you stop holding people's hand and let em fly or fail on their own devices?

16 with a job = great...what happened to going to college? what happened to moving on and leaving that wack job for da next high school kid

to just have a couple of bucks in his pocket to get some kicks or go to da movies?

where's da baby father?

I agree with ninjahood ninjahood

If I had 2 kids and I'm not making enough to provide for them, I would've BEEN looking for something better with better pay. She has no one to blame but HERSELF for being comfortable at her job.

of living in poverty.

10 years b....i don't even wanna post a music video of 2004 to give you perspective on how long she held on that to that dead beat job..

If there were ever a case of the pot calling the kettle black, THIS would be it.

You're 30+ years old, you live with your mother in her cramped apartment, you've invested "porsche money" into sneakers for well over a decade now, and you barely have your Associates degree. Simply stated, YOU don't get to call someone out on their "life decisions." How do you excuse yourself for your circumstances in life?...:rolleyes

Moving on...

I feel for her, but at some point she needs to quit that McD's and seek out a better opportunity. Shhh at least enroll in CC, learn something valuable and collect that refund check while you're at it.

I'm with ninjahood on this one. I know people that's been through some hard luck **** that keeps them stuck with no end in sight, been through it myself. And i know we have no real idea of her situation, but 10 yrs b, atleast a move up within restaurant itself is warranted.

that hussie is so far beneath me

she could tie my shoelaces.

im IN college, i DO work, i got NO KIDS...you know why? because i motha ******g think before i put my penis into piece of vagina.

i JUST turned 30, and in a little over a month i got da choice to go OTR for my CDL job or stay local, either way making $$$$$

its called life choices, this idiot obviously failed doing her.

that strag made her bed, now she lying on it.

We can argue all we want about her life choices and all that but one of the major points of the article is that she was arrested for that.....I don't think that's right.

Not even an iota of sympathy for her. She just made bad choices. Literally ANY retail job would have paid her more. She could have gotten a degree in ten years and not had to go to school full time. She brought her life on herself.

Good thing is she's still young, she can make the change.
The sad thing is, she probably won't.

This is the issue with these people, all they want is handouts instead of working hard for more like the rest of us do.

She gets no sympathy from me.

should've gotten a job at IN and OUT.

cashiers make 15 and you start off at 10 bucks if you are just a cook.

Yup, ten yrs is a long time, but she's 26. At least she had a job at 16. She still has a lot of time to get a career.

Do mcdonalds offer tuition reimbursement?

the sad thing is mexican chicks in california, not about other state, starts having babies when they make 16 an hour. They think they got a good career.

Someone earlier had the right question that's not being asked enough in this thread,

why was she arrested for speaking?
