Millennials Are More Giving

Eh, we different. If don’t really got the dough (and sometimes I don’t) and I’m about to go spend the little I have on some ice cream and then I look over and see some hobo asking for money I’ma just give it to him/her instead. I don’t need the ice cream, but they may need the money.

Makes you feel good about yourself, don’t it?

Not really. I don’t think much about it.
The amount of times “I” shows up in your explanation says other

So what if it does?
Goes back to my original post and being self absorbed. People are giving out of the kindness of their heart, they’re giving to look and/or feel like a better person. Which, IMO, is just as selfish as not giving. You’re using someone else’s misfortune to validate yourself. Residue from the social media era. MFers just trying to look a certain way, “right”.That’s why most of those people aren’t even homeless or poor.

You really want to help out those less fortunate DO something. Volunteer, give clothes and blankets to the homeless directly.

I agree completely.

Millennials are poorer, at the same age, compared to members of generation X. Gen X is poorer than boomers at comparable ages. We’ve been in a 45 year period where attaining middle class stability takes longer and longer and becomes less likely to even be achieved at all.

Generally, poorer people are more charitable than wealthy people. Poorer people understand how capricious life is and they see people working extremely hard who can never get ahead. Meanwhile, people with a lot of money tend to think the world is a mostly fair, orderly and meritocratic place.

Most them cool but had some experiences with some rude homeless people so I don't give anything anymore unless they make it clear they're nice people first.

Went into Chic-Fil-A and bought an entire meal for this dude sitting outside. When he initially asked, I offered the meal I had just bought (grilled nuggets) and he turned it down lmao. Went back in and bought him exactly what he wanted. Handed it to him and he was rude asf and didn't even say thanks, barely even looked at me.

Disagree. Millenials have more debt than other generations as they spend more wastefully which is why middle class is a harder reach.

Please donate food or time to your local food bank or food pantries if you’re able.

if you know someone in need (especially elderly and people with kids) direct them to a local food bank, pantry, or social services office.

The data that I have seen shows millennials (those born between 1982 and 1996) have a lot of student loan debt but have much less consumer debt relative to boomers (those born between 1946 and 1964) at a similar age.

Now if you have a baby cousin, who is like 19 or so, and he borrowed a grand from you for "school" and spent it foolishly and has no plan to pay you back, that sucks and he should make every effort to pay you back. At the same time, the under 24 crowd (your prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain involved in judgement doesn't mature until about 25) aren't millenials and anecdotes don't trump data.

The headline of this thread ought to be, "people in their 30's are poor relative to their parents and have charitable giving patterns like poor people because systems have caused a great deal of downward mobility."

Ah yes, all that wasteful spending on things like going to college only to afterwards be underpaid and underemployed comparative to their education level so needing to rely on credit more to afford the same life that those before them lived.

Yeah, I ain't got not data other than a personal observation. :( :lol

I don’t really give away any money because everybody and their mom has a sign asking for money out here.

but I do help people. Yesterday helped a truck driver get some real heavy things on his trailer he’d never be able to get on his own.

helped this dude get his van out of the snow the week before. I just don’t really give out money.
