Whatup NT,
I'm a college senior, switched majors after trying the biz school thinking it was all that. After nearly 4 years of rote memorization it got to me and I switched to liberal arts (read: interesting/easier classes with a degree that looks pretty on the wall). Seeing my friends with accounting degrees doing 9-5 jobs with paltry pay also helped...

I realized that I passionately want to pursue my music career and feel stuck where I'm currently at. I should mention that I have been working on my music for years and the past 6-8 months I've improved to the point where I've already spoken to major label A&R's and have been starting to look for a manager and what not. I realize the chances of making it are slim but I feel that if anyone has the skill set to make it, it's me.

Basically, has anyone moved to NYC, LA, etc. to pursue their dreams, whether it be music, acting, or something else less practical. I am really thinking of going out to Cali or Toronto for 3-6 months to just make music and get inspired, wondering if anyone else has/is/wants to.

Cliffs:

graduating college

want to pursue music career

want to move somewhere to get inspired and not force creativity, looking for insights/experiences.

[color= rgb(255, 0, 0)]Why would you want to move to a major city? Chances are your competition will be vast thus making it a bit tougher for you stand out.

But, by all means, do what makes you feel happy.

rapper/producer. and i feel limited in my current city. i'm not afraid of being a small fish in a big sea, I'm more concerned with lack of opportunities where I'm at.
Plus I'm lacking inspiration and creativity here. school damn near ruined it for me for a couple years. I feel like waking up to the Cali sun would be just what I need.

Major cities are not cheap so you will need at least a part time job if you want to survive... unless your family has money.
Do you have a youtube channel? thats the easiest way to get lots of exposure and to see if your music really has that 'it' that makes ppl go wow.

I saved up a little bit of money. Enough to afford a spot for up to 6 months and what not, and I wouldn't be opposed to a part time job. I don't know if the move would even be permanent, maybe more like an escape from the real world to really inspire creativity.
I have a youtube channel, already made a few vids that are being edited. I have till mid summer to decide since I graduate then. I'll def release music by then to see where I'm at.  I currently have a fbook page/twitter/youtube that I'm gonna post my first 2 singles on soon.

And for the record I half !$$ nothing. I went through 2 years of trials and tribulations and realized that I have to give 100% so that isn't even an issue. My first single is currently being mixed by the same guy who does all of Wiz Khalifa's stuff. All original production, all properly mixed. I am treating this as professionally as needed...and even then I know I could end up failing.

its all about connections in this industry. go where you know the most people and can cultivate the most connections. I am on the sound reinforcement side of things and 99% of my business revolves around who i know. Most acts you see these days aren't any more talented than the next, they all use the same producers and got into the industry by looking pretty or cause they know someone. So go and intern and kiss +%@ and make friends cause unless you're on some lady gaga next level you can do it all wave the only way too succede is by networking
