That would be determined by your intentions. The comment seems to be, to me, sort of a back-handed way of saying the sound doesn't work today. If you were trying to make a hip-hop hit by today's standard, the comment could mean that you failed. If you were trying to capture that classic 90s feel, then it could mean that you succeeded. What were your intentions?
