Nah the only reason for this is demand... the supply of 8,8.5, and 9 are far less than the bigger sizes.. most stores when they get a size run of a sneaker receive less 8 and 8.5 and 9 than most of the other sizes, therefore triggering a demand for it because 8.5 is a pretty common size...

Usually when they show the stock list for SNKRS and Adidas/Yeezy Supply, 8-10.5 have the most stock since it's the most common men's sizes (thus more competition for those sizes). Once you hit size 11-12 you see the stock numbers start to go down as the sizes increase.
