Niketalk is this a good deal on a trade in vol 12k upside down on 15 Optima EX into a new 16 Sorento

someone i know did the exact same thing. Bought a new sedan to turn around and want a suv. traded in the sedan got the suv than went back to the same dealer to trade in the suv just to get another sedan

best believe the person aint get what they just paid for the suv. Now the payments are higher and back riding in a sedan was a horrible decision.

you already played yourself buying a new kia dont do it twice fam.

Unless you got an army of kids, ain't no damn SUV necessary.

Hustling backwards.

All you need is a car that'll get you from point A to point B w/o problems.

Das it.

Do you need the space because your child?

Like the guy above said, an SUV is not necessary because one kid.

Stick it out with the car you have and pay it off. Trading it and adding on to your debt will be the worse outcome in this situation.

Unless you're outright balling I never understand why people buy new. Car prices depreciate fast and there are way too many good used cars out there for cheap.

Hey hey....i bought my Mazda6 brand new in 2003. I still have it and it runs and looks great.

You were wilding doing that before doing your research.

That dealer probably laughed with his other dealer friends in the back when you drove off the lot so don't make him flex anymore going back and doing it again

Why do you even need the SUV. just stick it out with the sedan man

I didn't even know kias cost that much. Nd depreciate that fast.

wish i could afford a kia
I have literally never heard anyone ever say this and honestly never thought I would

Damn broski!

You should stick this one out and pay all of that as soon as possible. You definitely gotta be smart with your choices, if your salary/income will be increasing in the near future and by increase I mean, enough to pay it of quick, then go ahead. Like you said yourself, the KIA brand depreciates horribly. On top of that, how good of a build quality are these cars now :rolleyes? They have improved, but by how much ? This is something that will be with you for at least half a decade. Like you, I do buy cars new, always have and always will... Since High School. But planning is essential, the faster you get this paid off, the better. You have to add cost of maintaining it, depreciation and other economical factors (income+/-). Don't dig deeper, the hole is already big B.

If this was like a Honda or Toyota there would be some type of upside man but that was a big mistake with the Kia. They sold you on that Eco thing...You should of went with the Japanese instead that keep their values

Do not make a mistake and do what I think your going to do. You will regret it for years and years :{ :x

especially a kia .... give me a clean 2-3 year certified preowned with super low miles :smokin

We rationalize our decisions for the want versus the true need sometimes.

Someone in here mentioned, all you truly need is a reliable point a to point b.

That being said, you have that already. Don't have enough space buy a roof rack.

If you "need" to get a bigger vehicle, don't lie to your self, just say you want an suv and be done with it. But get something you truly want, with the exception of 1 guy in this thread no one has ever said I want a Kia. (Don't feel bad, I drive a Prius) If your going to get another 8-9 years of payments, don't settle because depending on how much negative your rolling over, you might not get a second chance on this one.

Cars and houses are such an emotional game, easy to make people sign and look at a contract when they get home and realize the mess they have committed to.

I work in consumer finance btw.

I need a bigger car because this one barely fits a stroller in the trunk and the carseat bottom attachment prevents me from moving the front seat back far enough, plus other quirks I have with the car like the small *** cupholders. I think I am just going to deal until I get closer to even on it.

buy a smaller stroller, position the seat on the other side of the car, buy smaller cups......... thread/

. Thats whats wrong with america, everyone trying to borrow to infinity just to get the latest want or need.
Sorry I ruined America.
I wanna know how your car depreciated almost 50% so quickly
in 9 months with 20k miles on it. http://www.kia.com/us/en/build?series=optima-hybrid&year=2016&trim=6&model=587 Kia Optima Hybrid EX starts at 32k+, fully equipped comes to $37k.The regular EX starts at just under $25k and claims to get 28/39 (I am only getting 30mpg now). You could get a new '15 for $21k though. Hindsight

It's top ranked in its class in a number of categories. I have no issue with da prestige or whatever of saying I am in a Kia vs other more established brands. Just took the L more on the quick depreciation which I didn't know was going to be a factor plus somehow not getting Hybrid level gas mileage made the huge upcharge to get that model moot

I'm 6'0 tall 300lbs all legs. This little Kia ain't cutting it, my previous car was a Grand Prix. Can't even comfortably fit the carseat in here since when you turn the car off the seat slides all the way back for you to get out and it pushed against the carseat base (is in the center, the safest spot) plus the trunk is tiny,

Kia k900 is their lucury car that goes for 60K laugh.gif

The Kadenza is $42k and I see a few of those. The K900 aka the LeBron starts at $60k and I was told they don't even sell those here. Quick Autotrader search of Dallas shows MSRP up to $68k but some 16s selling for as low as $45k in Plano but they want you to pay it off in 36 months :lol. LeBron's King James edition is nice though, but this is a badass car. If you didn't know it was a KIA you'd eekface if you seen It pull up

Top safety and reliability marks in their class on most models. Yea, I was unaware of the quick depreciation though.

I understand how that curve work, the value vs amount owed, Edmunds.com has this tool, True Cost to Own Calculator, http://www.edmunds.com/tco.html wish I knew about 9 months ago. Still doesn't sink with the amount of depreciating KBB hit it with :x This says I should only lose $8k in value the first year with 15k miles a yr, also assumes a lesser MSRP too probably. Based on real life, those lines probably won't intersect again until 0

Bottom line, I goofed. It happens. I'm not losing sleep or going broke over it. Still 50/50 though. I can take the $12k hit, but like above said probably not to stay in another Kia. Looked at some things like the Traverse, CR4, and the Rav4 yesterday. I'll probably wait. I can pay this off in under 5 yrs and be free and clear on it. Probably need the money to be putting my daughter through some sort of private school, especially if I am still in Oklahoma.
pquote]wish i could afford a kia[/quote]
You can get a Soul for about $14, Rio or Forte for $12, current year model new. Payment would probably be less than $160

I remember when Kia's first came out, used to cost like $5k, brand new.

My how times have changed.

*edit* for OP my advice is stick it out with the car, buy a different stroller and a different car seat. Will be much cheaper.
