NT Are You A Classist?

Some o yall mommas must not clean.

Draya mommas
Interesting, Draya is worth over $300 thousand dollars making her "middle-class". She makes as much as some doctors, lawyers, stock brokers and entrepreneurs. If doctors, lawyers and other professionals houses were dirty, would many of you hold them to the same regard as Draya? Does money alone determine class or are there other factors that influence your outlook?

and where exactly did you get $300k from?

And how are e counting net worth?

Is it all your assets? Or assets minus liabilities?

So you have an issue with counterfeit luxury goods? Philosophically they're still pants, what don't you like about her pants?
dude... you are trying to appear introspective, but you fail at basic logic

you don't even realize you answered your own question before you asked it....

Well put, your anosognosia is uncanny! It deserves reps!

Introspective would be MY personally feelings, right? "Luxury" is subjective and actually class based perception. So if her description was being given by a dispatcher wouldn't they  say "African-American female, approx. five feet tall, mid-twenties, wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans"? They wouldn't say FAKE True Religion jeans would they?

I think I didn't answer my own question, however I believe you have revealed that you feel counterfeit jeans are something you don't like though too.

To answer ops question naw & Itaking your shoes off at the front door is definitely an unwritten rule amongst us black folks lol

I judge people based off my interactions with them. I never get caught up with class or title, that stuff is stupid to me.

Regarding Draya, its an interesting question. Technically she is in a higher socioeconomic class then me, and if money is the only determinant then yes she is in a higher class.

Shoes off in my household as well, I wear some Nike slides around my house

I think in America (all I know) they end up intertwined as aspects of one another through the way media shapes perception and social reinforcement.

Mostly, I think it depends on the individual. The higher you go in terms of class, the more the 'system' changes you to be more representative of that respective class.

If you're a dude that made it from the hood to corporate... You don't stay corporate by staying hood, it changes you to conform to that white/blue collar middle class or risk compromising your position.

Unless of course you're a rapper or the like.. They sell the image of a culture representative of the 'lower class', but I guarantee that's not the way in which they conduct themselves when doing business.

Had to pull an all-nighter for my final, sorry if my explanation isn't too clear :lol

Im not stupid fam. I can tell the difference between someone content with their position and someone simply unambitious.

Feel like that was kind of implied.

I 100% agree with this.

It wasn't implied at all, unambitious to you may mean someone not trying to climb the social ladder, someone being content with their life, their ambitions may be learning the most, experiencing different life experiences, serving their neighborhood etc etc.

America defines Ambitious almost exclusively with gaining more money or moving your ranking in the social class.

i don't care what your situation is. Ill associate with anybody. Now befriend.... you gotta be humble, have heart and not a deadbeat dad

Counterfeit luxury goods = trying hard to fit in

the whole idea of buying a "luxury item" however is largely trying to fit in and separate yourself from a poorer class.

As someone who has bought a few items in the past, i will say that luxury items do come with a certain amount of craftsmanship to them that you wouldn't get from other items, with that said there are 10'000 leather bags out there. It's but so much quality you can obtain.

At the end of the day none of that **** is worth it

I remember one dude on here said something like "we look for confidence in our closet instead of getting it from our achievements in life" & that stuck with me ever since, one of the realist things i ever read

bruh..... if you know how to look for craftsmanship you will realize that there is a difference in 'some' luxury items vs. cheap items sold at target/walmart

I have a (unnamed luxury brand) basic brown leather belt that has been in use for 3 years with no major wear besides a nice patina....

Try coppin one of those "bonded leather" belts at Ross/Marshalls and see how long they last before the layers separate.

The craftsmanship of certain items makes it worth the premium you pay upfront.

It is really worth it to a very small minority of people. I would say 10-20% of people who constantly buy luxury items really have a passion for the design and ideas behind the items. The other percent just want it due to hype, status, or the actual craftsmanship.

So a $600 Margiela sneaker may really be worth that much money to someones who's in love with the design of the shoe & the textures, details of the shoe. Because art is subjective to all what you may think is just a shoe may really be one of the most interesting things created to someone else. However that's rarely the case when someone is buying these luxury goods.

Like Gucci makes 300+ Denim, it's ugly, it isn't A1 craftsmanship, yet someone is going to buy it simply because they are made by that brand.
