Anybody on here ever made a feature-length film before? I wanna make an independent film by Summer 2010 and just wanted to know how to get started withproduction, filming, casting, etc. Any help is appreciated ahead of time...

Just out of curiosity, what software are you going to be using?

Is this going to be a film about D-Lo Brown?

Nah fam, it's not gonna be about D-Lo Brown... It's kinda of acomplex story but it's basically a Pulp Fiction meets Seven meets Lovejones type flick... I'm not sure on the software... that's another question Iwas hoping NT could help me out with...

PC right now but I'm considering a Mac if I can't find comparable software...

I have Avid Xpress Pro and Adobe Premier, hard to decide which one is better.

I have used iMovie for simple projects, but don't have much experience from Sony Vegas or Final Cut Pro (Mac).

From what I hear, the best bang for your buck is probably Vegas, just depends how in depth you want to get.

I've made a couple short films and helped out on a few as well. It will be long, hard, frustrating, time consuming, but will ultimately be worth it in theend. Just make sure your crew is as enthusiastic about it as you are, otherwise A LOT of stuff will be on you to take care of.

TIME CONSUMING.. REMEMBER THIS THE MORE FILM YOU HAVE THE BETTER!!! = MORE TO EDIT FROM! Rather then having nothing.

well there is A WHOLE LOT YOU ARE GOING TO NEED ill help a little and come back later.......first things first....

NO POINT WITHOUT A GOOD STORY! so get a a few good writers. Then use a story board! it helps.
people who obviously know how to film and edit. How the movie is filmed can make or break it as well as bad editing.


try using a Mac and get:
FCP (Final Cut Pro)
After effects
Photoshop & Fireworks are helpful for images
Garageband is helpful

ALWAYS REMEMBER TO RENDER THE VIDEO!

if you dont know how to use FCP im pretty sure youtube will have videos.

for the story just saying you really need to find a story that is different otherwise it'll be a waste of i guess all the time you spend filming andediting.
If you have more then 1 camera that would help alot for a whole lot of angles. TRIPOD unless you want it to look !!*!%%....

@Orangesoda, I'm willing to spend whatever it takes to make a quality product... no reason to even bother if you're not gonna go in...

if you have the cash, use a Canon XH A1 a lot of actual movies use it now a days in a few stuff. And it works wonders if you know how to use it.

Not trying to clown, but those videos would not be considered anywhere near a "short film" just regular "music videos".

Short Films usually range from 3-10 min that quickly hooks the viewer in the beginning of the film with a very unique idea that in the end usually ends with aspin.

I had worked on a few and was anticipating the Apple Film Festival a little over a year ago. They kept delaying it and next thing you know they just stoppedit, but their winners and runner ups are always like WOW.



Some of you might know who Steve Buscemi is.
