Even if some of us win a million dollars, we wouldn't know what to do with it besides spend it all.
How would you flip a million if it just fell on your lap (lottery), How would you avoid being a Lottery suicide?

 son.....you didn't capitalize the T......@*%@....

I could spend it easy;

500k house (maybe more)

150k car(s)

50k Family

200k Invest/donate

100k for whatever else (clothes, travel, furniture.....)

Gotta figure the tax that will be taken out of that mill.

For prize payments over $5,000 taxes will be withheld as follows:
25.0% Federal Tax
9.25% State tax (Maryland residents)
7.5% State Tax (non-Maryland residents)

pay off my moms debt, finish my foam collection, throw the rest in the bank

Once you win that type of money it's a huge lifestyle change... how will some of you maintain it? ( like make a million/yr with investments )

invest in my own business pay off parents bills and throw the rest in the most lucrative account available...the house and car are not very important right now bc i already have an apt and wheels

So this is why i made this thread, to pick the brains of the people who would know what to do with a million dollars. Dirty what would you do, keep it simple of course

First thing is not to tell anyone you won, not your close friends, parents, no one. Second is not to do anything with the money right away. Take a few weeks or months to just think about what you might do with the money and talk to a financial planner if you need to. I would like the money to last but I would also like to spend it. I would probably go on vacation first, then think about buying a house. Then after that idk go on more vacations and save the rest.

I was actually thinking about this on the way to work today. But more so how I would just put the money into good use for myself. Like buy a house, a new car, pay my parents back for taking care of my school loans, ect. I wouldnt know how to really flip and invest in something that made me more money, eventhough that sounds like the best idea.

I think about this all the time.
Buy real estate alot of it and flip houses like that show

After taxes you might see around 600k. Personally, I would make no drastic changes in my life. Keep my career, same car, etc.. I would put it in investments. That's really not a lot of money and can easily be ran through.

My lifestyle wouldn't change much at all.

Sure, I would buy a house and get some new gear and a new car, but I would continue doing what I'm doing right now which is going to school to better myself.

The money I don't spend on upgrading, would go to investments, savings and a college fund for my daughters.

Today
1.  No one would ever know.  I wouldn't even tell my wife.  She might find out after I die.  (Everyone's situation is different, but this would work here.)
2.  All phones are scrapped and replaced with new numbers before I even send in the ticket.  I don't care if I knew you since my first breath.  The only way to talk to me now is to make it through the newly installed guard dogs.  (Cover is that something crazy happened to someone at work, now I'm worried about home security.)

Coming months
3.  I elect to take the upfront payment, settle a few modest debts just for peace of mind, and everything else is divided between multiple brokerages and ultimately form an overall diversified portfolio that I manage.
4.  Nothing else changes on a day-to-day basis.  Nothing changes in the way I work, nothing changes around the house.

This year
5.  In a few of months I start getting back in touch with family and friends and apologize for not keeping up, been really busy with work, cell phone problems, got new numbers, yadda, yadda, yadda.  (Again, I know this wouldn't work for everyone, but this would work here.)
6.  A tithe will be divided amongst various sources.  Anonymous cashier's checks (not requiring my signature) arrive by certified mail.

Years to come
7a. Money goes toward education, social and cultural enrichment, and edifying opportunities for my children.
7b. Money may go toward long-term community projects.
7c. Money will likely go to aid those in need (always anonymously).
8.  Will likely pay down the mortgage quite a bit.
9.  In a few years I might get a new car or something just to be indulgent.

I've thought about this.  I like my life and I don't need anything.  I would much rather give it all away than have it become a problem for us or those around us and the only way I can foresee that working is if nobody knows.

1 million is not alot of money these days. the average homes in LA are 550k if I was to get that half of my money is spent. Me I would keep my job put 90% of the money in a high interest savings account in just maintain as normal.

i'd just buy a house, probably a condo or townhouse. and a truck. then continue living my life
