Sports topics have been crossing over more and more into pop culture so Meth forgive me if this isn't the right spot.

But I've seen the words, ****, uncle tom, house negro, tap dancing too many times since POTUS took office and I think it needs to be addressed.

Maybe we're from different cultures but those words can get you killed.

I remember seeing Jim Brown called numerous names for simply meeting with the president.

Yet dudes on NT are quick to call him a ****.

Jim Brown has done more for black people then 99% of NT.

Stephen A. Smith, Cam Newton and others.

If a black man agrees with a white man then he's an "uncle tom".

What?

I don't agree with everything every black person says and I sometimes get angry when a black man dismisses or ignores a bigger cause but the doesn't make them an uncle tom or ****?

Am I the only one who finds the popularity in these words disturbing?

I think Cam is a perfect example of Stockholm syndrome as well as many NFL players.

He's not a ****.

Folks just love labeling folks these days man.

You either are or you aren't. There is no in between.

Just the world we live in

*in a southern red neck voice*Well this here is 'merica. I can say anything I cot damn please.

But on a serious level, yes those names are used too liberally these days. It's lazy analysis on someone's opinion and words.
Too keep it simple, some minorities are still making there way around these issues coming to the forefront and they are constantly growing. Give em time to smarten up.

Cept that sheriff Clarke and Charles Barkley. Those are some stupid **** *** ******.

Why is it always about race on NT ?

Serious question.

I'm new so i'm curious.

I notice race being brought up in most threads.

so people are supposed to adhere to da same group think cuz of common colors or be labeled .... :lol

yeah, guess i know why i thought gangs were corny too....

Unless your white, race is a everyday REAL issue to minorities so I don't find it shocking.

that's not all da way true if you live in a minority majority ethnic diaspora, NYC got pockets of majority who don't think nothing about who they are and what it is cuz everyone reflects similar commonalities.

NT is a reflection of the world we live in. For most black people, race is something we haven’t been allowed to forget about.

As for the topic I’m not going to type out a history lesson, but “****ing” was often done by white men (in black face) as a mockery of black people during the minstrel show era. Some black people also got in on the act and catered to white people’s perceptions of black people.

I understand why the word is used. Is it used too loosely? Of course it is. But what words aren’t? The same argument could be made for the word “hater”. Disagreeing isn’t hate or envy, but try explaining that to everyone.

In my everyday life, unless I’m rapping along to song I rarely say a lot of words. Even then, I may mute myself if it’s excessive. Still, I’m not going to tell other black people to not say the N word or B word. That’s on them.

I get you, hell dudes do it to each other here if you don't go full psychotic extremist on steroids on every issue. But some of the ones mentioned have earned it. Jim Brown for example, everyone knows what he's done including put his life on the line, but in the past year he's been a pervasive and consistent tool for white supremacy. It's not just a Trump visit, listen to his own damn words and don't short change the situation. It's like when dudes here only see ninja in like a shoe thread then see him in others and wonder why no one ****s with him on most issues and come to his defense. Get the full picture. People can change, sometimes for the worse.

Yes, but get this, to the Dominican republic. Such a diverse trip from Washington Heights to DR.

da fact that you think Washington heights is a carbon copy of DR (an entirely different country) is irony on your end talking about lack of traveled experience

That’s not the case Koop. Here’s the way I, and perhaps others, interpret it.

Often times when words like “****” or “Uncle Tom” are assigned to a black man, it’s because that black man has chosen to stand in solidarity with a white person whose sentiment or action has a detrimental effect on the black community. It’s possible that they could be completely ignorant of the ramifications of their actions, sure. But in my opinion, they’re fully aware.

The only reason a black person would do this is to gain white favor. I have a very hard time believing that people such as Jason Whitlock or Ray Lewis believes that their messages will not have some negative draw backs on our people.

I fully believe that blacks who spew messages for white appeasement only stand to further embed the ideas that “blacks should get over it/this isn’t a race issue/everyone is treated fairly” held by some white people. If they see a black person practically regurgitating those sentiments, they double down on the nonsense rather than addressing the ever present issues that exist in this country.

****s, tap dancers, uncle toms, etc. would have some white people believe that America has truly achieved fairness and equality when regarding race relations. The opposite is true. Hence, those people need to be called out.

The former US Attorney General, Eric Holder, said it best a few years ago. America is a nation of cowards on matters concerning race. When anyone within our culture speaks the contrary and suggests that such equality has been achieved, they’re setting us back. Hence, those people need to be called out.

so when rich black people vote for tax breaks, is "white favor" a euphemism for their own pockets?

I mean if the shoe fits.....:nerd:

da term doesn't apply other than black people who wanna denigrate other black people, which ironically gives da "white oppressors" ya rail against so bad power.

ya only give power to things ya allow have it.

but Tebow, ill gladly have you join da other banished idiot who shall remain nameless if that's what you want.

It’s so bad on NT... that folks will literally tell you that you are lying about your race and occupation because you disagree with them. Like it’s comical, and sad, that people on here feel that everyone should agree because of their race. There are so many other factors that play into opinions. Honestly, it seems like the largest difference is socio-economic
